What Would You Do With This Enclosed Deck? (Pics)

Well now that are deck is fixed and we can have people up there, we are trying to decide what to do with it to make it look nicer on the inside. It is right off of DR/Kitchen. Here are some pics of the area I'm talking about. Some are from before we bought the house and some are during our renovations. Any thoughts, design ideas are welcome! Chat Icon

So we are thinking about taking down the paneling and putting new wainscoting up. Maybe paint the wood beams, but I'm not sure. It would be hard because of the plastic roofing material. We are thinking about putting some wall to wall indoor/outdoor carpet down, so we don't have the spacing between the floor boards. Now that the windows can close, I was hoping this is where we can go to be outside, but not with the bugs. Chat Icon We will replace the screen door and put up new miniblinds. I was thinking that the white is just too bright. When you are out there and the sun is beating down on the roof it really makes it bright with the white on the walls. The side of the room that is the outside of the house is a light grey. Thanks for any advise you can give. Chat Icon

Hmm I personally like the wood colored beams on the ceiling.

I would do new paneling.

We have a similar room in our house (right off our kitchen) and we will be finishing it off so it is a finished sun room. We will have windows and plantation shutters in ours.

I would keep the wood beams and just refinish them and the floor. Paint a light color. Are the windows and doors ok?

That space will make such a cute sun room!

What a great room! I would do an indoor/outdoor area rug under the table and leave the rest open. I say paint the beams, personally, and maybe paint the walls a color that goes with the DR, and it will give the illusion that the room just flows outdoors.

If you have the money, you should turn that room into one of those florida rooms.

I think that room would look awesome with a large outdoor rug some paper laterns our other outdoor lighting hanging, I'd leave the beams natural & paint the paneling a warm neutral color that goes with your furniture. Some plant stands with tropical plants and some sort or buffet table along one of the walls would be great too.
Also I think fabric, like gauze sheers or something would be better than mini blinds.
I just got the restoration hardware outdoor catalog & the west elm catalog, both have GREAT ideas. Also the gallery on BHG.com sometimes has really inspiring pics from great magazines like Sunset.
Pier one is another place where you'd find awesome placemats, candles & decor for that room.

Personally, i wouldn't replace the mini blinds, i would put up some nice drapery in there. i would make it more of a homey feel.

I like the idea of the outdoor throw rug, some plants etc...

I think if you Jazz it up with some nice window treatments it would feel so nice in / out there.

I agree with the PP who said paint the room, leave the wood beams natural, and add some flowy window treatments.

Add an outdoor jute area rug and you're set!

You have to post before and afters!

I love the idea of paper laterns. That would be great lighting. There is a light out there, but it's a really bright spot light right now that we need to change. Maybe I can get small brackets for the corner and hang indoor/outdoor curtains in the two corners....I likey that idea. Chat Icon And I'm thinking maybe a nice warm beige/tan for the walls after we put up new paneling. Make it feel homey. And def. some tropical plants. Or at least one bigger pot in the corner with a big leafy plant. Love the ideas. Keep them coming if you have any more. I'll take a look on BHG.com and I guess I should look on RateMySpace too. Hopefully we can get to this "room" before the summer ends. Chat Icon

I know I said on another post that BM paint is the best but for this Lowes brand is the best from experiance. I would paint the floors (lowes brand),paint the walls(BM brand) leave the ceiling beams natural and go with cellular blinds. They would give it a much warmer cozier look. What a great room!

ETA: I think some hanging plants would look really nice

That is an idea too. Didn't think about painting that floor. I'll have to think about that some more. I think leaving the ceiling beams natural or at least with a new stain on them would look much better. And trying to paint them wouldn't be easy either, but then again neither would the staining. Maybe they will stay natural Chat Icon Maybe just a clear coat to make them look newer. I'm thinking about cellular blinds, but I'm not sure money wise right now. Maybe next year I can replace the mini blinds with cellular. (of course on sale at JCP) And I'm def. looking into some curtains, probably sheer/gauze material. We will see what the budget is like. Have you considered making it an open deck rather than an inclosed sunroom?

No. We have so much decking on the lower level that we really don't need this to be open as well. This "room" was one of the reason we bought the house. We have a small stream behind the house and the bugs get kind of bad from what we have seen, so we want some place to go to eat and sit....be outside, but not completely. i think if the bugs weren't so bad we might have opened it up.
