What would you guys do? Some advice
I was diagnosed with PCOS, yet my bloodwork came back normal and I ovulate on my own. I just have very irregular, sometimes long cycles. A sonogram showed the cysts on my ovaries. This is my first Clomid cycle. It worked very well for me, but the emotional side effects were absolutely horrendous. I had a very difficult time during the week I took it and am still feeling the effects of it 3 weeks later. I am now 11 dpo and so far, it doesn't look like I'm pregnant this cycle, but I was given very good odds at being pregnant within 3 cycles of taking Clomid. I'm just not sure what to as far as dealing with these side effects. The thought of going through another week like I did scares me. Is there another option that you ladies are aware of? Would you just deal with the side effects and maybe do IUI to increase the chances of conception?
Thanks.

Re: What would you guys do? Some advice
IF you have the option of doing IUI - I would do it. It raises your chances only about 10 - 20%, but that would be enough to get you PG in three cycles IF you have clear tubes and no uterine problems. Before going ahead with the IUI, I would insist on an HSG - there are too many stories of women having IUI's with no HSG only to find out their tubes are blocked (which you should know anyway even if you don't do IUI).
The side effects of the Clomid shouldn't last that long... It might be the emotional stress that is affecting you also.

Re: What would you guys do? Some advice
what emotional side effects are u having? I recently had an hsg and was all open but 3 months later still no baby. so my next step would be clomid and/or IUI. I have horrible anxiety and am so emotional as it is, I am scared clomid will really mentally mess me up. what does it do 2 u? sometime su hear horrible hsg stories but mine dr was so gentle and wonderful. If needed, i'll pass on his info. feel better

What kind of emotional side effects? I am about to start my third month of clomid and I havent noticed any side effects other than the hot flashes.
I would talk to your dr about your concerns and see what they suggest.

I agree...get the HSG test and make sure your DH has a SA before going on to IUI. We did and I'm glad of it,I have luteal phase defect and DH has sperm count about 37 million (they look for 60). He has been doing acupuncture which has worked awesome - doubled his numbers in 6 weeks.
I was on Clomid for 5 days. My friend said she was very emotional but I was not. I was extremely calm, DH said almost "zen-like".

Re: What would you guys do? Some advice
Woah, this post was bumped from last month! I'm happy to report that I'm pregnant after we decided to try a completely natural cycle without meds or IUI, but with monitoring from my doc. Glad I didn't have to make the decision to use Clomid again or have an IUI.
Best of luck to everyone!

Re: What would you guys do? Some advice
Oh, and as far as the emotional side effects I had one Clomid, they were bad! I was really, really depressed and anxious. I also had insomnia and would wake up in the middle of the night with my heart racing and unable to fall back asleep. Apparently, the side effects I experiences are not the norm, so I just might have been a rare case.

Re: What would you guys do? Some advice
I went to Dr. Braverman at SIRM. i told him that we decided to hold off on meds that cycle and he said that they monitor unmedicated cycles all the time. I went in on day 3 of my cycle for bloodwork and sonogram. I went back about a week and a half later for blood and sonogram. I had a positive OPK that day and my blood and sono showed I was just about to ovulate. I went back 7 dpo for a blood test to check progesterone. I got a positive pregnancy test 3 days later at home then went back to the doc's for 2 betas.
I think they'll monitor my pregnancy until around 8 weeks and then I will go to my obgyn.

Re: What would you guys do? Some advice
Holy cow - - awesome- i never knew drs just monitored like that! Great news... i love LIFAMILIES.com. My husband and i both had all normal tests, and i think we just have a prob w/ timing... we slack in the actual babymaking process unfortunately. busy we school and full time jobs and 2nd jobs. so it is hard for us to time it and do it perfectly. i know no excuses. anyway..... how many days is (was) you cycle normally. I know everyone is different. Thanks again!! and congrats. what is SIRM?
