What would you send a family that just suffered a devastating loss
Besides a sympathy card? I'm thinking some sort of food but not sure what kind? TIA

Re: What would you send a family that just suffered a devastating loss
I like the food idea - that's what we do as well. Normally, I will order from an Italian restaurant/pizzeria and get a few trays or 1/2 trays (depending on the size of the family) of food and either have it delivered or drop it off after all of the services have stopped. I've also ordered from Omaha steaks. They have lots of complete dinner options to chose from, and they're good if the family you are sending to is a bit further away.

Re: What would you send a family that just suffered a devastating loss
I just lost my father two weeks ago. We got a lot of fruit baskets, and some of it went to waste.
One of the best things we got was prepared dinners (from Lombardis Market in Holbrook) We were able to get two days worth of dinners out of it.
I would also suggest waiting until after the funeral if possible, you get so much that first week.
ETA - Like the PP said, Omaha steaks is great too, we also got a delivery from there from friends out of state.

People gave us food the week we sat shiva for my grandma, lots of bagels and deli stuff but what went the quickest was hot italian food-eggplant parm, chicken, etc. I would ask them when theu want it as well. Sorry

Re: What would you send a family that just suffered a devastating loss
When a close family member died, work sent me a basket with non-perishable food (crackers, jams/jelly, dried fruit, chocolate), which was nice & easy to put out when we had company at the house. I've received edible arrangements which are also nice, but need to be eaten within a day/two.
Food is a plus, so a family doesn't have to worry about cooking in a time of mourning.

Re: What would you send a family that just suffered a devastating loss
When we have a loss of someone out of town that we can't go to we usually send food. It usually is Honey Baked Ham or something like that...when we know the family will be home, for instance the last family we sent it to...we knew would be home after the funeral, so we had everything delivered that day.
We had Ham, Turkey, and a ton of sides and stuff like that.
Hope that helps

Instead of actually sending food, I would get a gift card to a place where they can order in from... When my family went through devastating loss, we had so much food delivered to us it ended up being wasted.
A GC they can use when and what they want in their own time.

That's a great idea, maybe to like Uncle Giuseppe's since they offer so many prepared foods.
