Whatever happened with that missing child case in Florida?
The one where the mother didn't report her child missing for a couple of days?

She's still denying that she was involved. It is in the FBI's hands so she refuses to talk to local authorities to help. She has stopped talking to anyone about it.

Re: Whatever happened with that missing child case in Florida?
The grandmother was on Larry King last night.
Doesn't appear to be any new leads in the case
I also saw pictures of the mother partying it up a week before she reported her daughter missing.

Re: Whatever happened with that missing child case in Florida?
newest article from CNN (highlights from the LK interview):
(CNN) -- Two-year-old Caylee Anthony has not been seen since early June, but her mother, Casey Anthony, did not report her missing until nearly a month later. Anthony has been charged with child neglect, making false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. Police also consider Anthony, a "person of interest," in her daughter's disappearance.
Cindy Anthony, Caylee's grandmother, appeared on CNN's "Larry King Live" Tuesday to talk about her granddaughter's disappearance and what role she played in her daughter's incarceration.
Some highlights:
Larry King: Do you have any thoughts, Cindy, as to what happened to your granddaughter?
Cindy Anthony: My thoughts are a lot clearer now than they were that night that I made three 911 calls. I'm very confident that Casey will be exonerated of all charges once we find Caylee, so that's why our focus is on trying to find our granddaughter.
King: So you feel she's definitely alive?
Anthony: I believe she is alive when Casey handed her off to the baby sitter. At this point, I just hope to God that no one has done anything to her.
King: Why did you turn your daughter in?
Anthony: Well, a little background, Casey had gone on an extended trip, kind of trying to figure out -- she's 22. We were talking about when it might be the right time for her and Caylee to move out. Her trip just kept getting extended and extended, which was really not a red flag, I mean, the trip itself. There would be a few days at a time that she would go and stay with friends. She went from a couple different friends, and I never got a chance to speak with Caylee during that time.
I would ask Casey periodically if she could put Caylee on the phone or whatever, and there was always a very reasonable excuse. Either, she was napping or she was already in bed. By the time I get home from work sometime in the evening and I would be able to speak to my daughter, it would be time for Caylee to be napping or going to bed.
King: So she finally comes home?
Anthony: Well, what happened was, to set the background right, she had told me that she had been in Jacksonville for the last week and a half. We had gotten a notice in the mail that we had a registered letter. We found the registered letter a few days before, but it was the weekend, so we had to go down and get it. When we got it, my husband found out it was from a tow truck or a towing company.
When we actually went down and found out that the car that she, you know, uses was not in Jacksonville. It was in Orlando and (when) we found out the date, that was a huge red flag.
I started calling her friends and I found one friend that had just seen her a few hours prior, and she took me to where Casey was at. When I got there, there was no Caylee so I started to feel like, "What's going on?" She had told me that she was at the sitter's, so we took her friend home. Her friend and her, and I drove around for a while. It was later in the evening, about 7, 7:30. That's typically when we start getting Caylee down for a nap and Casey's response was that Caylee was probably already getting ready for bed and didn't want to disrupt her.
But being the selfish grandma that I am, I wanted to see my granddaughter. So we drove around a bit, and I tried to convince her to take me to her. I just started getting an eerie feeling that something wasn't right in Casey's voice. I know my daughter pretty well.
King: Cindy, are you now saying you believe your daughter -- you want her to come out, and you believe that we're going to find Caylee?
Anthony: I believe we're going to find Caylee if the investigation goes the right way, if the media will not just take their own spins on things. I was in shock that first night and there's a lot of things -- the first phone call, there was no panic in my voice. The second phone call, a little frustrated. The third phone call, by the time my daughter had spoken to my son and actually said that Caylee had been kidnapped, I walked in on that conversation. So the police were going to be taking their time to get to the house, so I said whatever it was to get them out there, right then and there.
King: When she (Caylee) was gone for 31 days, didn't you think that was a little nuts?
Anthony: No, not really. I think what's nuts is for people to speculate on things that they don't know the whole truth.
King: So is it the suspicion that the baby sitter kidnapped her?
Anthony: That's not suspicion. That's what Casey has maintained all along.
King: Did you get a ransom note?
Anthony: No, it's not that type of kidnapping, sir. This person loves this girl and wants to have her as her own. That happens all the time. That happened not too long ago. In Orlando, Florida, someone stole the baby right out of a hospital.
King: So she's a runaway with this child?
Anthony: I believe so.
King: And you're saying the authorities are not looking for that baby sitter and the child?
Anthony: Well, let me tell you why I say that. It's because they told us there was one person in central Florida with that name. In fact, there's nine in central Florida. I just got a phone call on my way here that there's four in Fort Lauderdale and my daughter said that this girl had a Fort Lauderdale number and has connections in Fort Lauderdale and New York and New Jersey.
In every state, there's people by this name. They think she's smart enough to make up this person for the last two and a half years, but dumb enough to park a car where in plain sight that her mother would drive by twice a day and see and leave her purse in the front seat of the car and not drive it into some lake.
So, my daughter is not a murderer. My granddaughter is missing.

It sounds like her mom is in denial, based on the Larry King interview. There is no way on EARTH my son could be missing for hours, let alone weeks, without red flags flying up everywhere.

I would have seriously smacked my child, sounds like this kid should've been taken away from the mother a long time ago. "Extended Vacation"- Esa caca.

Her "kid" is an adult. Not everyone is in contact with their parents every single day. I don't think anyone ever said she didn't "care".
I think the grandmother knows her daughter is involved, but being that the daughter can watch the videos of interviews from jail, I'm sure it will hinder things if she knows her mom thinks she is lying.

Didnt they say Casey and her daughter lived with the Grandmother? Her explanation of Casey's "extended vacations" because she was 22... is ridiculous.

It's been said that they moved out of the grandmother's house prior to Caylee going missing, so that does make it hard to keep tabs on where your child (or grandchild are).
I saw the new laywer on Fox last night and he indicated that Caylee's life was threatened if Casey told the police where she was. Of course since this girl seems to be a pathilogical liar, who knows.
I then sort of though that maybe she set this whole thing up and really does know who took her and that person wants to cash in on the reward money ($250k right now) and split it with Casey. Weird I know, but not completely outlandish!

just to clarify. i made TWO statements
one about not trusting/believing the grandmother.
the OTHER in reference to (as i understood it) that the MOTHER of the little girl stated that she really didn't know where her little girl was... for roughly a month's time

I see what you're saying, BUT she lived with the Grandmother. I have watched the Grandmother and there is something strange about her too. What she's saying doesn't even make sense. In actuality-the police concentrating on the Mother would probably make the supposed "kidnapper" let their guard down. Also they did investigate the leads the moither gave them and no one had lived in the apartment since April I think. A cadaver dog also signaled that there was human decomposition in the car.

This is incorrect. She lived with the parents but was away for an extended period of time

King: Why did you turn your daughter in?
Anthony: Well, a little background, Casey had gone on an extended trip, kind of trying to figure out -- she's 22.We were talking about when it might be the right time for her and Caylee to move out.

Re: Whatever happened with that missing child case in Florida?
Here are a few updates for everyone:
July 30th From Orlando Sentinel
Grandmother: 'Pieces of the puzzle' coming together in Caylee's disappearance
Bianca Prieto Sentinel Staff Writer
11:38 AM EDT, July 30, 2008
The grandmother of missing 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony told reporters outside the Orange County Jail this morning that she's closer to the truth about the child's disappearance.
"I think I've put almost everything together last night," Cindy Anthony said before meeting with her daughter, Casey Anthony, who has been in jail since July 16. "The pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together."
Cindy Anthony also expressed her frustration with the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the media's coverage of 22-year-old Casey Anthony and her missing granddaughter.
"They [sheriff's investigators] are looking for Caylee, but building a case against my daughter based on circumstantial evidence," she said. "You guys [the media] are trying my daughter right now for something she hasn't been charged with. Where is her rights?"
Casey Anthony's 2-year-old daughter was last seen in June, however she her disappearance was not reported until July 15. Casey Anthony was arrested a day later on charges of child neglect, filing a false official statement and obstructing a criminal investigation. She allegedly told a series of lies to investigators about where to find the missing child and about herself.
Cindy Anthony and her husband, George, emerged from the visitation center before 10 a.m.

Jail records in Caylee Anthony case should remain open, judge decides
Amy L. Edwards and Bianca Prieto Sentinel Staff Writers
July 30, 2008
A judge declined Tuesday to block news agencies from obtaining video visitation and audio records of jailhouse phone calls by Casey Anthony.
Her lawyer, Jose Baez, sought to bar the release of the records after Orange County Jail officials released details of two conversations in which Anthony discussed the disappearance of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie.
At Tuesday's hearing, Baez told Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland the search for Caylee needs to be "protected" while it proceeds.
"For example, if this child has been kidnapped and my client gives information to her family, it shouldn't be disclosed to the media," Baez said.
"If this person's out there and sees that this information has been released, they may abscond, may take the child even further, or God forbid do something worse."
Attorneys for the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Orange County Corrections Department and the Orlando Sentinel argued before the judge.
Lawyer Rachel Fugate, representing the Sentinel, said the public is interested in the case and there is a need for information.
"Secrecy simply is not the answer," she said, "especially in a case such as this. Transparency and openness is."
Anthony, 22, was arrested July 16 after detectives said she had told lies about the child's disappearance. Anthony says she left her daughter in June with baby sitter Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, whom investigators have not found.
Jail officials have released a 14-minute call Anthony made to her family hours after her arrest and a later conversation at the jail with her brother Lee. Officials also released 911 calls, including one in which Anthony's mother said the car her daughter used "smelled like there's been a dead body . . ."
Sheriff's detectives working on the case have not authorized the release of any other visitation videos, a jail spokesman said after the hearing.
In denying Baez's motion, Strickland told the lawyers, "When push comes to shove . . . I'm going to err on the side of the First Amendment every time."

Appeals court to decide if Casey Anthony's bond will be reduced
Amy L. Edwards Sentinel Staff Writer
11:51 AM EDT, July 30, 2008
The Attorney General's Office does not believe the local court that set Casey Anthony's bail at more than $500,000 abused its discretion.
Defense attorney Jose Baez is appealing Anthony's bail, set last week by Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland, and has asked the 5th District Court of Appeal to direct the lower court to set a $10,000 bond.
The Attorney General's Office, which handles appeals for state prosecutors, filed its response with the appeal court Wednesday morning.
In that response, the state said it recognizes "that it is well settled in Florida that every person charged with a crime is entitled to pretrial release on reasonable conditions." The state also is aware "that excessive bail is tantamount to no bail at all."
The Attorney General's Office referenced Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure, which states, "In determining whether to release a defendant on bail ... the court may consider the nature and circumstances of the offense charged and the penalty provided by law; the weight of the evidence against the defendant ... employment history, financial resources ... and mental condition; the defendant's past and present conduct ..."
In its response, the Attorney General's office recapped the testimony that was presented during Anthony's bond hearing:
- A prosecutor argued Anthony "is a person of interest in what is looking to be a homicide investigation."
- There was a smell of a possibly decomposing body in the car Anthony drove.
- There were possible hair samples of Caylee and a stain in the trunk of the car.
- A neighbor told investigators he saw Anthony back the car into the garage and then she asked to borrow his shovel.
- A cadaver dog alerted to the trunk of the vehicle. That cadaver dog, as well as another, also alerted to the same spot at Anthony's parents' home.
The Attorney General's office also wrote that Strickland was concerned with Anthony's mental state and ordered a psychological evaluation.
"All of these were factors considered by the trial court when it determined the proper amount of bond," the Attorney General's office stated.
The appeals court will now consider both responses.

This family is so messed up......
They want the little girl's face splashed all over the place, yet want the "mother's" jailing to be kept quiet.
The mother can't decide when the right time to actually TELL SOMEONE where her daughter is, yet she should have her bail reduced from 500K to 10K....
and did you READ the Larry ing interview? The grandmother was all over the place with her story!!!!
I think they should all be thrown in jail for obstruction of an investigation!

ITA! How terrible!! I have to admit I'm not following this case as close as most people but just reading the above posted article with the grandmother of the little girl talking about how she's closer to getting the full story....what the F? Since when is a family member in charge of an investigation? Maybe that's not what's going on but it sure sounds strange. They sound like they are enjoying the game they are playing with the police & the media and the attention they are receiving. I hope to God this child is somewhere safe and they are just freaks looking for attention and not that we are going to hear that they found her body.
Turns my stomach but I know that goes without saying for all of us.
