What's best to do first? Paint or carpet?
I was all set to paint the walls with the old carpet still there, then have the carpet redone. But my mom said that she was told to do the opposite because carpet installation can leave nasty marks on the bottom portion of your wall. Anybody have advice/experience with this?

we painted first then had the carpet installed and we didn have any marks on the walls. I would rather have to touch up a little paint than worry that I would get paint on my new carpet.

Paint first!
We had carpet installed afterwards - and the only scratches we found were in areas we didn't paint (like the hallway) but we fixed it with touch up paint.

I would tear the old carpet up, then paint, then lay the new carpet. If thats not possible, i would paint first.

Usually it's paint then carpet, but my friend just did this and the carpet guys took paint off of three walls in the room she had carpeted, so she had to go in and repaint.

Paint first, and touch up if you need to. Better than getting paint on your new carpet.
