whats the best type of gift card to get
as in a gift card they can use anywhere. i know some have werid fine print and stipulations... TIA

If you have an account with TD Bank, you can get a gift card there and there are no activation fees, like there are with the other cards.

Either a simons card or visa card GC. I think those 2 are the best gift you can get.

If you have a Commerce account you can also get those...they're Visa cards (I think they still do it...they did last year)

I guess I'm the odd man out, but I hate these types of GC's. I've always had problems using them and vented about a problem using one yesterday at Kohls. Apparently you can't use it in conjuction with your debit card (for the difference) since it would be considered using two credit cards in one transaction and they don't allow it (even if I used my debit with a pin). It was a total hassle.

I usually opt for a store one to avoid fees.
In terms of getting one, Amex.
Visa & store cards have expiration dates & fees for checking balances more than once (Simon does), etc.

DONT get a simons GC, they are AWFUL, and really annoying to use.
If you have a balance of say $20.oo left on the gift card (which you HAVE to know the balance, and they cant check it for you at the store), and you want to buy something that is more than your balance, (which is why you have to know how much is on the card) you have to buy a gift card for the amount you owe from that store. They dont just credit you the $20. It is really annoying.

Really? I've used them in conjunction with my debit card several times. I've sometimes been asked the amount of the Amex gift card, but that's it.
ETA - I usually give Amex gift cards... never tried the Visa. No particular reason, though.
