What's the best way to store and preserve DC's outgrown items that you want to save for Baby #2?

We will be storing DS's outgrown items in my parents' basement. We will probably have to save these items for about 2 years.

What's the best way to preserve?

DS will be 6 months old this month. We will be retiring his swing, infant seat and stroller, bouncer, etc very soon.

I threw away a lot of the original packaging. I've seen commercials for the vacuum air tight stuff for clothing.

I did this for baby in 2007 and I am reaping the benefits for baby in 2009

I tossed or donated anything that was stained, ripped or that I didnt like. No sense in holding on to things that you wouldnt put a new baby in.

Then I folded and organized by age 0-3 months, 6-9 etc. I also made a separate bag for winter coats and accessories. I put them in vacuum saver bags and then bins.

I also wrote down the ages and what was where so I when I went to look for it in our storage area 2 years later it was accessible.

LOVE the idea of the vacuum seal bag THEN the Tupperware bin!!!! I have everything in bins but at 1 year old I'm on my 5th bin already!!!! Vacuuming sealing FIRST will save me on space for sure! Thanks for the tip!! Chat Icon

Can you recommend the vacuum saver bag you used?

How did you store baby equipment? Swings, bouncers, infant carrier, etc?

I had DS in 2006 and when he started to out grow things I put clothes in storage containers and large items I packaged up and put in the garage. When I got preggo with DD I started to take things out and they were fine.

They sell them in Costco or BJs or Bed Bath and Beyond. I just wouldn't buy ones that are too big or you can't get them in the bins.

We also did the SpaceSaver bag route. I took a sheet of paper, and use a Sharpie and wrote in really large letters. I put the sheet on top of the clothes in the airtight bags. The paper gets a little wrinkled, but since I wrote large, it isn't a problem.
