What's the difference???

between a pillow case and a pillow sham??? Can your head touch one but not the other? I'm serious, does it matter? Is it like a bedroom faux pas if I use the shams as if they were cases?

Shams are decorative, cases are functional. I guess you could use the sham as a pillow case, but after so much use and washing of it, it would probably get pretty beat up and not look as good as your comforter or quilt.

Our shams actually wouldn't be that comfortable to sleep on. And I don't want anyone drooling on them either!

pillow case is made from the same material as your sheets, therefore you can put your head on it.

The sham is made from either the same material as your comforter or another, more fancy material. It is a decoration and not for sleeping.

Now, what you do in your own home is your business though

We always sleep on the pillow shams that came with our bedding. No need to have two more big extra pillows just for the show! The shams aren't nearly as comfy as the regular cases though, so i usually end up moving that pillow underneath.
