It doesn't matter if you spend $3k on a bag - good for you if you can afford it and that's your thing - just don't follow it up with a comment about how you don't think that's a large sum when you know darned tootin' well it is for most of the people on this planet.

I dunno. I still don't see how it's an accomplishment that warrants congratulations. It's not a new job, or a baby, or a wedding, or someone beating cancer, for example.
People get excited about their interests and/or hobbies. No different than sports. Look at all the people who follow professional sports teams. Why do they pay money to watch them? Pay money to wear their paraphernalia? You could question why such a vested interest in sports for people?
You happened to click on a link that was a forum for people who have an interest in handbags. People do it on LIF as well. Someone purchases a car, home or even a pair of shoes and folks tell them congrats. I don't think it's that out of the ordinary and I certainly don't think anybody equates it to beating cancer or the like.

I have never spent personally more than $100. I just never seem to have an "extra" $200-$300 bucks. Its not a necessity. I do have two nice bags, one from my mom and one my DH bought me. One was a Lucky bag and the other is Tano. I have had both for almost 5 years, and going strong!
