What's the penality for quitting an NYC Public School?

I'm just wondering...I dunno if I would do it but I just would like to know what are the consequences if i did

I don't know the answer to your question but just wanted to give you hugs and let you know that I know a few people who quit NYC teaching jobs after the school year had begun.

if you signed a commitment letter i think you were not allowed to work for the DOE for 2 years. If you did not sign one then i don't know if there is a penalty. Go on the website or call a UFT office. they would know and I am sure you could do it anonymously.

Can you stick it out until the end of the year???? I know it's bad...but you don't want to hurt your future chances of getting a job elsewhere

I am currently on extended child care leave. From what I know if you resign then your pretty much "black listed" from working in the system. I personally doubt this is entirely true since they are in such need of teachers, but I would think you might end up in not the best area if you go back.

The open market transfer period begins in March! Don't quit yet!!
