Whats the shelf life of a real tree for XMas?

Dh grew up in a house with a real tree, I did not. Plus I tend to be anal and the needles will kill me! But I want him to have a real tree, however, we would normally put it up within the next week. A real tree wouldnt last that long, right?

I LOVE getting to enjoy the tree for like 5 weeks and looking at it for weeks before Xmas. Im assuming a real tree, would have to be put up like the week before Xmas, right?

I ue a real tree and buy it around the 10th of Dec. and it lasts until New Years!

I have the bottom cut off at the tree place so it gets rid of the sap seal and put it in a bucket of water for a day. It really extends the life of the tree. After is soaks up the water I use a life extender mixed with water in my tree stand.

You can get a real tree now just have to make sure it isnt near any direct heat like from the base boards. by a window would be ideal. also just make sure it gets plenty of water.

the pine needles drive me nuts too . i still find a strangler months later but it's worth it

Now that my kids are young adults I tried to talk them into the idea of a fake tree but that was shot down in seconds flat! I just really LOVE the smell of a real tree.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Not sure if you have access to a garage or anything, but we buy our tree and let it soak in a bucket with the tree solution (you can get it from any nursery that sells trees; its kind of like the packet of stuff that comes with fresh flowers) for a week. The tree gets totally hydrated and then you bring it in and keep it well watered.

When I was a kid, we'd buy our tree the first weekend of December (soaked for a week, then up the following weekend) and it would be up until the Epiphany in January with very little needle dropping. But also, make sure that when you buy the tree, you have them cut off about 2" of the trunk to give you fresh wood on the bottom. It will be able to soak up the water better that way.

We're going out to buy ours this weekend, it will soak this week, and we'll put it up next weekend. I can't wait. Chat Icon
