Meshutt Beach in Hampton Bays. No rocks, no waves, and an awesome snack bar. Plus its only 15 minutes away and usually very quiet.

I have never been there with my kids but I love Crabmeadow in Northport. I have been going there since I was a baby. It can be rocky but not too bad. There is a playground a restaurant etc

For me it's hands down...Overlook Beach
It's family friendly, easy to get to, and I love the ocean and DD loves the playground.

Re: Whats your favorite beach in Suffolk for the kids ?
Just came back from West Meadow! Its not my favorite beach (VERY ROCK), but its great fun for the kids. There is a playground area, swings, and little sprinkler area (which is where we were today).. plus there is a long paved road great for taking a jog or walk. And its only a few minutes from where we live. I'll set up a GTG there soon.

Ocean Beach on Fire Island or Corneille when we want to bring the dog. We stay on the Ocean Beach side if we are going into the water b/c technically, the lifeguards do not cover Corneille. Why is it my favorite? It's beautiful and it feels like home.

Love this post since I have no clue about LI beaches either (I'm not from here originally). We usually only go to Cedar Beach b/c it's close to our house and free...DD does like playing with the rocks but she does ask where the sand is b/c she wants to make a sand castle
They have a decent playground too.
But I definitely want to venture out this summer.

This is where I go just because it's so close to my house. It is REALLY rocky though--hard for walking! Two playground areas.

Cedar Beach/Mt.Sinai is great for the kids! It's pretty rocky but great for swimming(my dd is 8 yo) and good playground. Mechutt in Hampton Bays is nice too for the kids although I'm a huge ocean fan- usually go to Cupsogue and dd loves it(just not as relaxing when she's with me).

Re: Whats your favorite beach in Suffolk for the kids ?
For my local beach I'll choose Long Beach in the Town of Smithtown. It's fairly close by and kid friendly. If Im taking the kids to the beach I dont want a playground just a beach. The distance from the car to the water's edge is pretty close, bathrooms are close by, lifeguards, etc.
My favorite kid beach is West Neck in the Town of Huntington. Essentially for all the reasons listed above except for the distance now...It's a win for me b/c of the inlet that it has. When the tide goes out it creates a small "rapids" area which is great for the older kids to ride their blowups down. It's also full of "wild life" and my kids LOVE to collect sea snails, crabs, fish etc...

I love West Neck! When I was little my parents used to take us there and we would ride the current in the little inlet area
Now I love Centerport beach. The walk from the car to the blanket is ridiculously short. To me that is very important! It's a neighborhood beach with lots of children. I prefer the north shore beaches because they aren't wavy which is good for smaller children, and are close by.
So far this spring I have been to Sunken Meadow a few time and am loving it! It has the boardwalk, playground and trails.

Re: Whats your favorite beach in Suffolk for the kids ?
sunken meadow during the week only b/c it has so many parks and is close by-BUT the parking lot is not as close to the sand as i'd like! then crab meadow or asharoken in NPT. both have parking lots right near the beach.

This is where we always went growing up (when we lived in Miller Place).
We used to spend summer at the other Cedar Beach since it was within walking distance of the marina my grandparents docked their boat at.
Westhampton Beach is easy to get to and has a decent playground too.
