When applying for a job

is it better to fax your resume or e-mail?

I am looking for a new job, and all the listings offer these two options. I am traditional and used to faxing, but is e-mail a better option?

I guess I worry that with the amount of junk mail, e-mail can be lost. But faxes can be lost too.

Thoughts?

Re: When applying for a job

I generally do email. Our fax machine is tempermental and also does not print as well as a traditional printer. I did make a PDF of my resume, and that is what I email instead of a word doc.

I tend to read faxed resumes right away while I will print out emails at one time and go through them then therefor a fax may stand out a bit more at first.

I say email - I feel like a faxed resume might get lost in the shuffle.

Agree. Just make sure you're careful and follow directions (ie - paste the resume in the body of the email if they reequest it.) I know it sounds obvious. but i can't tell you how many times i've heard from employers that people don't follow simple instructions.

Re: When applying for a job

I said fax but actually, many companies now have applications where a fax is sent to your e-mail's in box, so really, it wouldn't matter.
However I prefer email only because a fax machine can jam or run out of paper. And I'm not a fan of how some things looks coming off a fax. If you email it, I think it would nicer when printed out.

Good luck! I hope you find a job you love!
