When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
DH and I never went on a babymoon due to my terrible morning sickness. I know most girls go on their babymoons in their 2nd trimester.
I was hoping to squeeze in a trip to the Caribbean. I've already started my 3rd trimester. I'll probably be about 32-35 weeks pregnant when we go.
Do you think that is too late to fly? Would you go?
DH thinks we should just go on a trip after the baby is born. He said one of our moms could watch the baby while we go away.

I think they ask not to fly when your about a month due.. b/c of the fear of you going into labor while up in the air.. but Im not positive since I havent had to deal with.

Yeah, Way to late to fly. I was cut off at 28-29 weeks. Most airlines wont even let you at that time.

Re: When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
My OB wouldn't let me fly without necessity that late - I would check with both the dr and the airline before you book.

I already know my obgyn will suggest us not to fly out of the country. I was told if we could help it, not to fly out of the country and that was in the second trimester. Doctors are so cautious!

Re: When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
At my doctors appt last week, she told me she's comfortable with me flying up to 36 weeks. She said she tells everyone something different depending how each individual pregnancy is going. Like the others have said, some airlines wont let you fly when you're that far along. So it really depends on what your doctor and the airline says.

I think most airlines cut you off at 36 weeks...This being said I am 34 weeks and i've been SOOOoo uncomfortable that there is NO WAY You could pay me to sit on a flight even if it was two hours.........
I think after 30 weeks I was like, NO more traveling....PLEASE.....

Re: When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
I wouldn't have a problem flying at that time if my OB was ok w/ it - but I wouldn't want to be out of the COUNTRY that close to my due date ........-
And I'm NOT the alarmist or overly cautious type .........couldn't you take a trip to FL or AZ or Vegas or somewhere else that's warm w/o leaving the country?

Well, I hope that's not the case because I am planning on flying when at 33 weeks. I heard that they won't let you fly within a month or less of your due date.
We're going on a short cruise. My midwife said it was fine, just take it easy and drink plenty of water. We planned this trip before I was PG and it is a bit late in pregnancy, if you have a choice I would try to go before 32 weeks.

Re: When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
You can probably fly, but personally I wouldn't. I'm just about 32 Weeks, and I'm very uncomfortable. Plus, I think 32-34 Weeks is way to late to leave the country. What if something happened?

Just out of curiosity, what if it is an emergency and you must fly? Will airlines still not let you on?

Honestly I don't know how an airline would really know how far along you were if you didn't tell them.
I'm pretty sure airlines would let me fly. My co-worker is 4 months pregnant while I'm 7 months pregnant and she looks a lot more pregnant than I do.
I think we will go on a local babymoon to a bed & breakfast so we won't have to fly. A bunch of my co-workers came back tan from their winter vacations and I couldn't help but want to fly somewhere south too. This has been the first winter that I haven't flown south for the winter.

They would most likely require a Drs. note.
I know cruise ships will not let you cruise with them past 24 weeks. We were thinking of doing a babymoon cruise, but each cruise line I looked at, said pregnant women 24 weeks and up were not permitted to cruise.

i think that's a personal decision for your pregnancy and/or your doctor. medically there's no reason to be cut off that early.
the reason why they don't allow pregnant women to fly past 36 weeks is that the pressure in the cabin can make a pregnant woman's water break and put her into labor. that's straight from my OB's mouth. then it would be dangerous (and painful!) to be in the air with no medical attention.
i went on vacation at around 33-34 weeks and was just fine. i didn't fly though because we were only going to VA. we stopped frequently and had a great time. i would have gone on a plane, but there was no reason to.

Re: When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
I know someone that flew from Dubai to the US at 38 weeks pregnany because she was going to deliver in the US. I don't think the airline will prevent you from flying.

Re: When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
I'm totally guessing but I'm sure each airline has a pregnant woman restriction that says they won't allow women to fly after a certain date. This probably protects the airline from liabilities in case a woman goes into labor and has complications. I really doubt they can prevent you from flying because there really is no way they can possibly know how far along you are.

Re: When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
Just out of curiosity why would you chance it? I mean, its not life or death trip, its not a must. why risk a "maybe" you could go into labor early? PERSONALLy its not worth the risk.
And No, they will not know how far along you are, but why take the chance that something COULD happen. You want to give birth on a plane, or in the wherever you are planning to go.
It just must be me. I am so not the paranoid pg chick but at that stage not worth the risk.

Re: When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
At that stage in the pregnancy, I would not suggest going.
If you are so intent on going away, can you maybe do a local B&B that is within relatively close driving distance?

Re: When are pregnant women supposed to stop flying?
My dr told me not to fly after 34 - 35 weeks - not b/c the flying itself willl bring on labor but because he doesn't want me to be stuck in some random spot when I go into labor... Good luck!

Hey date twin, I just flew in from our babymoon and I have to say I could have never flown any later than I did! I was really uncomfortable the entire flight.
