When can you move them to a toddler bed?

We are expecting out second in early feb. and have a 14 month old right now. We plan to put the new little one in the bassent for the first few months, just like we did with Rebecca. Do you think it would be too soon to move Rebecca to a toddler or twin size bed at around 20-21 months?
I didn't want to buy a second crib. Any suggestions?

my son is 20 months and i am buying him his toddler bed this month he is already ready to get out of his crib he is trying to climb out and all that so I would say that 20-21 months is just fine.

Scotty was about 2 1/2 when we moved him, but he went straight from the crib to a twin bed.

One thing I can suggest, that I've read a number of times, is to move the older child a couple of months before the baby arrives. You don't want them to feel like they are being kicked out of their crib because of their new little brother or sister.

Good luck!

OMG I cannot agree with this response more.. lol... We have a convertible crib and my son was in the toddler bed setting for forever now it seems.. he was less than 18mos when we put himin it as he learned how to climb out of his crib early.. So we had him in the toddler setting witht he guard rail, and recently purchased a toddler bed. He is gonna be 3 in March, and he understands that mommy "has a baby in her belly" and its a baby sister and that hes the big brother.. BUT what he didnt understand was why in the HE-double hockey sicks we were taking him outta his bed... Sooo- DH put up the crib piece and we dressed the crib up with the new bedding and showed him that the BABY was gonna sleep in the crib, and the BIG BROTHER gets the BIG BOY BED... Chat Icon It was like pulling teeth the first week, he kept telling us when we were trying to put him to bed that we had the wrong bed... Chat Icon But he is geting it a little more now.. Chat Icon

Seriously, you dont wanna wait too close to delivery as we are due the end of Feb, so we figured, might as well start now, especially with all the new items we are resurrecting and purchasing.. trying to get him into the swing of things... HTH!!!!

We plan on moving Delaney into a twin bed sometime in January. The new baby is due February 24 so that will give her a few weeks to adjust to her new room, bed, etc.

We're not buying a toddler bed, we're going right for the twin bed because we thought the toddler bed was just temporary whereas a twin would last many years.

Joseph went in at 22 months since I needed it for Maddie. I waited 2 weeks before I put Maddie in his crib. He did remember that was were he slept but we never referred to it as "Joseph's crib" - it's our "family's crib" and now it was Maddie's turn. He loved the Big Boy Bed.

Maddie went into a twin bed at 2year 2 months since she wanted to climb out of her crib. She's not a fan of the Big Girl bed & prefers ours.

My sister dislocated my arm by pulling it out of the socket because of jealousy of me being in her crib

MArissa is 14 months I am going to transform her bed to a toddler bed she doesn't sleep all nite in her crib anymore but when she sleeps in my bed or on the couch she will sleep without waking up.
