I'm not sure when the right time is but I can tell you that we stopped about a month ago when Lucas started doing it on his own. I would go to move him into position and he would just rip one.

We're in a similar situation where DS is 6.5 months and I don't really have to do it anymore. Almost as soon as I move him into a sitting position, he does it one his own. I still rub his back a little just to make sure he's comfortable, but I don't think I need to anymore.

DD is 6wks tomorrow. There are times she burps on her own and others were she needs help, so im still burping her.
