When did DC start to REALLY talk?

Not just the babble stuff but words that you can make out?

Words we could make out started right before they turned 1, then as each month goes by, a few more.

I think a lot is up to interpretation. Sabrina has been "talking" for a few months but nothing really sounds clear. The intonation and voice modulation is there and she makes the connection between the word and the object but it not like the speech of a three year old.

Re: When did DC start to REALLY talk?

DS is almost 16 months and he says about 10 words regularly.
mom
dad
Ba for "Brendan"-his big brother
cookie
car
bye
hi
uh oh
nana for banana
Poppy
baba for bottle
ball
What I really love is that he really shows that he understand what I say to him. For instance, if I tell him we are going to go to the store, he'll get his shoes. Or if I say that we are going to play outside, he'll run to the back door.
Its such a fun time!!Chat Icon

Same here!

And sometimes he really surprises me. One day I was hiding and he looks over and says "mama, I see" Chat Icon Chat Icon

DD's vocab doubled after 14 months. She's 15 months now and says about 20 common words.

Other people might not understand all her words though. I read her a book about chickens going "cluck-cluck" and now she calls all birds "caw-caws". So, while it's not the correct term, she's making a connection. Chat Icon
