When did pillow cases replace the plastic pumpkin pail?

I just don't get it...true stories of last night:

(about 5 year old boy) I am Darth Vader and I'm here to bring you over to the dark side! Please put some candy in the faded and ripped old pink pillowcase my mom gave me but spent $50 on my costume.

(about 10 year old boy) I'm a scary monster here to kill you!!! Please put the candy in the Cabbage Patch kids pillowcase my mom gave me from my little sister's room.

Whatever happened to the plastic or fabric pumpkins...or the cute totes...

Re: When did pillow cases replace the plastic pumpkin pail?

While we were out last night we saw a boy (about 12) using a medium sized suitcase on wheels. At first we though it was a backback on wheels but when we got closer we saw that it wasnt.

I couldn't believe it.

I've seen the pillowcases for years. The little pumpkin things never hold enough candy.... Chat Icon

We either used the plastic "have a safe halloween" bags the schools gave out or a pillowcase....I think i only used the plastic pumpkins when I was really little...

I saw a bunch of pillow cases too.

And, I was so mad, most kids didn't even say "trick or treat" they just said "candy" or "you got candy" Chat Icon Chat Icon

That bugs me!!! You're supposed to say "Trick or Treat", not just stick out your bag / pillowcase and wait for the candy...and half them don't even say "thank you" - they just walk away!

I don't think the pillowcase was odd but I did notice that many kids didn't say thank you. That drives me nuts!

I used a pillow case when I was growing up. What is so wrong with using it?

Pillow casese don't bother me as much as...

Kids coming to the house not in costume

Kids reacing into the candy basket and trying to grab handfuls of candy. (Not just the teenagers, the little kids were doing this too)

Kids specifying what candy from the basket they wanted.

Give me a break. Just take the candy I give ya and like it!

Growing up, we used pillowcases a few times too. A couple of years we used heavier plastic tote bags that the library would give out.

The plastic pumpkin pails would get heavy with candy and the handle would break off.

LOL!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I didn't really mean to imply there was anything wrong with it...I just don't get why mommy would give her boy the nasty pink pillowcover!

I guess I'm not use to it cause all I remember is when I was little and everyone seemed to have the plastic pumpkin. As I got older we never got any trick or treaters anymore. It's been a very long time since I've seen as many kids as we had in our neighborhood now.

If they can fill a pillowcase--or even a suitcase I guess Chat Icon --good luck to them and good luck mom!

Remember the plastic glow in the dark pumpkin or witch buckets McDonald's used to give out in the happy meals when we were kids?? I loved those things!
