When did you give the Chicken Pox and MMR vaccine (esp if you delay/space out vaccines)?

If you try to space out vaccines, such as only 2 a visit, or even delay some, when did you give the Chicken pox vaccine and the MMR?

DDs 12 visit is coming and I just cannot see giving her a live vaccine at 12 mths. Is CP generally given at 12 mths? What about MMR? I am getting sick over the thought of this.

Also, does anyone know if your DC isn't vaccinated against these and they are around another child who was recently vaccinated, what are the risks of them acquiring the illness? Or if you have a younger baby when your DC has the immunization or if you are pg? Just trying to think ahead.

At Kaydyn's 12 mo visit she was supposed to get the MMR, the chicken pox vaccine, and another vaccine. I told my ped that I wasn't comfortable giving her all those shots.

I did the MMR at 12 months, the other vaccination at 13 months, then the chicken pox at 14 months so we were back on track for her 15 month visit.

I gave my DS chickenpox around 3 years, and then MMR at nearly 3 1/2. Basically waited till I was about to send him to nursery school. I recognize that those were very delayed, flame away, but that was what I was comfortable with and will do the same with my DD Chat Icon

No flames. I personally think the CP vaccine is RIDICULOUS and I dread dread giving that.

MMR is a dead vaccine, as far as I know. I could be wrong. So in that case I don't think there's any risk of contracting anything from a child who just got the vacc.

As for chicken pox, I had a 4 month old baby when my son got this vaccine. The ped specifically reassured me that the only transmission that could take place would be this scenario-- the vaccinated child would develop chic pox blisters around the vaccine site, and another child came in contact with the blisters (similar to the transmission of shingles, actually). So the ped said, if you see the blisters, keep the child's arm covered at all times. Hope this helps!

MMR is live actually, I think. Or am I wrong?

And I thought that live vaccines come out in the feces? Or is that just with the old live polio vaccine and Rotovirus vaccine?

Re: When did you give the Chicken Pox and MMR vaccine (esp if you delay/space out vaccines)?

MMR and the Chicken Pox are BOTH live vaccines. My ped's schedule gives them together at 15 months but I didn't do that.

We gave DD the MMR at 19 months because DD was sick at her 15 month visit and my ped wouldn't give a live virus to a sick child. I was happy to delay it and I didn't rush to reschedule it.

We just gave DD the Chicken Pox vaccine this past weekend. She's 21.5 months. I didn't realize that was a live virus until the ped told me so.

Re: When did you give the Chicken Pox and MMR vaccine (esp if you delay/space out vaccines)?

DS got both CP and MMR at his 15 month visit instead of the 12 month visit. The ped said he prefers to wait until 15 months (particularly for MMR) because the vaccine is more effective than giving it at 12 months. I was pregnant with DD when he got both live vaccines. The only thing the ped requested was that I check with my OB that I'm immunized against both. My OB looked over my initial bloodwork and said it was safe for me to be around DS when he got vaccinated. There were no problems and we're all doing fine!

Re: When did you give the Chicken Pox and MMR vaccine (esp if you delay/space out vaccines)?

Ped has them both scheduled for 15 months, but we delayed both. DD got the Chicken Pox vaccine at almost 18 months, and just got the MMR last month, so she was 28 months old.

DD will be two and she just go her MMR 3 months ago.

She is delayed on his vaccines because she had Kawasaki disease when she was 8 months old.

She is going to go once a month until she is up to date.
