When did you stop swaddling your very wiggly infant???
I swaddle RJ for naps and night time. I know that he will not sleep longer than 15 minutes during the day without being swaddled. He is always rubbing his face and just doesn’t really settle down without the swaddle. Needless to say, I have been swaddling him for naps since he was around 3 weeks…he is now almost 4 months old.
I also swaddle him at night. Not sure how he will do because I have not yet tried to take the swaddle away. The thing is that I know that he knows day from night obviously and what happens during the day (ie 15 min cat naps without swaddle) might not happen at night since he kinda knows that its sleep time. So who knows if he will be capable of sleeping through without out being swaddled. Im nervous to take the swaddle away because he might not sleep longer periods like he does now (right now he does alright…still not consistent with STTN but he will throw in a good night here and there)
I just feel bad always swaddling him…..like its going to ruin his development since he is always swaddled….even at 4 months old. He is just so wiggly and fidgety still that I don’t know what to do.
Does anyone still swaddle at 4 months for NAP and BEDTIME???

Re: When did you stop swaddling your very wiggly infant???
I was in the same boat as you!! DD was four months old and I was still swaddling her for fear that she wouldn't sleep as well at night. During the day when I put her down to nap w/ out being swaddled, she'd be all over the place. After our four month check up with the pediatrician (and her telling us that she's definitely ready to be unswaddled), we bit the bullet and stopped it cold turkey! The first night was HELL, the second a little bit better and so on. Within a week, she was getting the hang of it! It's a month later and she's doing great in the sleep sack. Goes to bed around 730/8, wakes up around 3/4 for a bottle and goes back down for a while. My advice, try it cold turkey for a week (even if it kills you!) and see how he responds. Good luck!

Re: When did you stop swaddling your very wiggly infant???
My DD was addicted to the swaddle me and would not sleep in her crib if she wasn't swaddled. We stopped cold turkey at 5 1/2 months when she started rolling to her tummy and switched her to a sleep sack. She didn't skip a beat and slept just fine.

Although I stopped swaddling Ryan at 11 weeks because he kept breaking out. I have a friend who swaddled until 9 months!
She says she would have swaddled till college if they made them big enough
