When did your DC roll over (back to belly)

Just curious - he has been trying so hard to do it, making little grunting noises and everything! Chat Icon

His darn shoulder and arm keep getting in the way - but this morning after his bath, I put the towel on the little rug, and he went RIGHT for it and even tried tucking his shoulder.... So I think it will be soon. He is 12 weeks old - this is the time he should be doing this, right?

I think it depends on the baby.

Steven did belly to back first, then back to belly.

They do belly to back first, which is why you're supposed to give them tummy time. DS was able to get himself both ways a little after 3 months. Once he figured out how to get onto his belly, he started sleeping that way- and he slept for A LOT longer.

Re: When did your DC roll over (back to belly)

I just checked this milestone wheel that came in the mail yesterday...it lists at 4 months: can roll over from back to belly OR bellly to back. I don't think it matters which one they do first...probably whichever is easier for the individual baby they will do first. For 3 months, it said rolls from side to back.

And remember, that's just a "standard" timeframe...some do it much earlier (smaller babies tend to) and some babies take longer. A lot of it has to do with weight and muscle developement combined...the bigger the body, the harder the arms and legs have to work to move it around. Chat Icon

Two days after she turned 3 months. She was rolling to her side at 2.5 months.

I'm a bad momma, I really cannot remember when Niko started consistently rolling Chat Icon

I am thinking it was about 4 months. He definitely did back to belly first, because he hates being on his belly and would flip and scream and I'd have to get up numerous times to flip him back over Chat Icon Belly to back followed a litle while later..

My dd rolled onto her stomach twice when she was only two months but hasnt rolled in the six weeks since. Now it seems like when she gets to her side she is so content there and no longer tries to get the whole way over like she used to constantly try to do.
