They never did I wipe their teeth with the washcloth I use to clean them off after feedings and "try" to brush their teeth-with just water at night but it is nearly impossible!

I don't recall her ever telling me. I started when DD had 3 teeth. I only use a drop.
My dentist said that toothpaste isn't necessary at this point, just a little water.

The ped never said anything to us. We started as soon as she had 4 teeth.

My ped never addressed this.
I recently starting using it (17 mos), but he just basically chews on the toothbrush!

Re: When did your ped tell you to start DC on baby toothpaste?
We've used the orajel baby toothpaste wince DD was around 18 months I think. Before that we just used water.
She had a dental check up just before 2, all looked good.

I haven't been told yet, although DD only still has two teeth but I do use the finger toothbrush on her ever night in the tub to get used to the sensation...

Re: When did your ped tell you to start DC on baby toothpaste?
He said as soon as he could understand not to swallow it.
So we just use warm water on the toothbrush now so he gets used to it.

Re: When did your ped tell you to start DC on baby toothpaste?
Ok so it's not just me.
DD has almost 4 teeth and I wasn't sure if we were supposed to start. We dont see the ped until the one year visit.
I have been using a really cool banana toothbrush. DD loves when I use it. She loves to hold it and "chew" on it a bit after we brush.
But I wasn't sure if was supposed to use baby toothpaste or not yet. This is a great product, fyi. It is BPA and pthlate free too.

Re: When did your ped tell you to start DC on baby toothpaste?
My pediatrician said the baby toothpaste is unecessary, just use water. When he was younger, I used a washcloth, but now that he has most of his teeth, I risk losing a finger.
Initially with the toothbrush, we just used water, but he resists toothbrushing, so I started using the baby toothpaste just to encourage him to do it.
In the morning, we often brush our teeth together, so I don't forget to do it then. And it became part of the bedtime routine so we don't forget, but early on, I think we did send him to bed without brushed teeth quite a few times.

Re: When did your ped tell you to start DC on baby toothpaste?
Around 12 months old we started brushing DD's teeth at night with a little of the baby fluoride free toothpaste and a baby toothbrush. She LOVES it!!! After I am done she likes to pretend to put toothpaste on the brush and do it herself. We do it now just to get her in the habit of tooth brushing and so she gets use to it. Only takes a few seconds.

Re: When did your ped tell you to start DC on baby toothpaste?
I have been brushing his gums since he was 5 months old with the gum brush and switched to the brush with the first tooth... i wanted him to be used to it as part of our routine..i do use the training paste because he would never let me in his mouth otherwise
