When do I let him work things out on his own?

DS is 7 months old and when I watch him in his crib on the video monitor he is moving all over the place and flipping from his back to his belly and back again. When he plays on the floor in the family room it's like he forgets that he can do those things on his own. Sometimes he'll be sitting up and will lean over too far and end up on his belly, but instead of rolling over or trtying to move he gets frustrated and cries until I sit him back up again. I try leaving him like that for a minute or two but he just cries out of frustration. When should I leave him to try to work things out on his own? Is it too early for that or am I indulging him by running to his rescue all the time?

Maybe just go in to cheer him on to roll over, etc. I do think that letting him work it out with your support is the best way to go.

I may not be the best person to answer it seeing that my daughter plays the helpless routine often.
