When do they say their first words?
DS is a little over 7 months and has been saying "Da Da Da Da Da" for a couple of weeks now. Of course DH loves this b/c he thinks he's calling him. He has used it correctly a few times looking at DH and saying dada, but I told DH it's just a coincidence.
Around when do they saying words? What about mama?

Re: When do they say their first words?
from what i understand - mamma is the harder pronunciation....
emma rambles with mamma, babba, not that much dadda though - which KILLS dave...but i always giggle!
i only sometimes think she gets that i'm mamma - like when she is upset and wants me or someone, she'll go MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaamma...

Re: When do they say their first words?
DD said dada around 5/6 months. That was her 1st and only word for a long time. She didn't say mama towards me until 15 months. She would call me dada, call my DH dada, call her grandparents dada.

Re: When do they say their first words?
My DD said ma-ma first (exactly 8 months old) and she actually said it about 2 months before she ever said da-da (exactly 10 months old). I would say around 12-13 months old is when she actually understood ma-ma and da-da and would look at us when she said it or point to us.
Around year old is when she started with other words like "up" and "baby". I believe 18 months is when they have a real "word explosion". I can't wait.........DD is almost 16 months so we're getting close.

Sean started saying dada dadada at about 5 months........ A few weeks ago he stated w/ Da Dee Da Dee ........and on my BDAY for the 1st time he started mamamamama - But I don't think he really says anything knowing what he's saying - he's just chatting to himself ....

Re: When do they say their first words?
DS is almost 13 months and is starting to call me mama. I don't consider him saying a word until it's used in the right context. He babbles and says mama, dada, baba, but never really associated them with anything. He doesn't use it in the right context, but if we say "uh oh," he'll say it back. He understands a lot and points to things he wants, but he doesn't really say words yet.

Re: When do they say their first words?
DS doesn't say "dada" yet. He started with "mama" around 5-6 months old. He has now added "mom" & "Mamee". He usually says it when he sees me or is crawling around the house after me. He also says "baba" & "Yay". He's 9 months.

Re: When do they say their first words?
My DS is saying "dada" too and it actually sounded like he said "daddy" and "dad" a few times. DH always says "Yes baby?" when he does it, but it is only babbling at this age (6 months). It's not really saying the word with the correct associated meaning. I think kids may say their first real word around 1 year old on?
