When do they stop putting EVERYTHING in their mouths?

I understand the whole teething thing, but when do they stop doing this? He chews through everything. Is it once the 2 year molars come in or sooner? Chat Icon

Re: When do they stop putting EVERYTHING in their mouths?

My younger DD is 1 and puts everything in her mouth--she was just eating an itchy ball from the garden yesterday! I would say it ends well before the two-year molars, but I'm no expert!!

3 ish maybe? If you notice most toys with small parts say not recommended for under 3 so that's about the norm. My DS is 2 and he is the only one of my kids who isn't really big on putting everything in his mouth *knock wood* but I still don't trust him around my DD"s Little Pet Shop stuff or my DS's tiny Lego pieces

Oh! I know about the choking hazards, but I'm wondering about the chewing on everything. I'm not giving small stuff to him!!! I'm talking about: my shoulder, books, papers, toys, phone, remote. He leaves teeth marks everywhere.

Looks like Charlie is going to be biting your growing baby belly! (Not saying you're PG now, just know you're trying!)

I'm not sure, but it depends on the children. I think somewhere between 2 and 3, many children stop, though they may still suck on their thumbs or pacis.

Supposedly this is one way they explore their world, so you are supposed to let them do it with safe objects. DS does this all the time, he tries to get our fingers in his mouth too.

Usually some where between 2 & 3 most kids will stop putting things in their mouth...

It's a developmental thing. Babies mouth on things to learn about them not just b/c they are teething....

Look at as part of their learning process..

If I can offer some glimmer of hope..Ariel stopped putting things in her mouth around a year...BUT..the twins were closer to 3..
