DD is great with a fork but I don't know if I trust her with a spoon quite yet. When should I introduce it?

Re: When do you introduce a spoon and at what age do they get the idea?
The way we introduced the spoon was sort of accident sort of necessity. Dd was the only kid I know that wouldn't eat yogurt but it turns out it was b/c she didn't want to be spoon fed by me anymore. So someone suggested why not let her do it so we started letting her feed herself yogurt with a spoon, first I'd guide her hand and help her scoop and put it in her mouth then she just caught on. It was really really messy at first but oh well now it's still messy but not that bad. I'd say she probably caught on about 16 mos maybe sooner not sure. Try it with yogurt. also we had to switch to the yoplait kids rather than the yobaby b/c it's got a much thicker texture so it doesn't fall off the spoon as easily. Every bit of help you can get, right? HTH!

She started to spoon feed herself about 8.5-9 months. I let her do it because she was interested in doing it. It was messy at first, but by a year old, she could spoon feed herself very well. She got the hang of a fork pretty quickly after that.
