When do you start brushing teeth/gums?

I hadn't even thought of this, being DD has no teeth. But I was just looking around in the baby isle at CVS yesterday and they had a little toothbrush and toothpaste for teeth and gums and it said to start at 4 months.

I started with Megan when she started cereal. So whenever that was. She started a little later than most..so maybe closer to 5 months.

Stuck with the finger brush until she clamped down on my finger with her little pointy teeth and then moved on to the brush!

By the way..I LOVE your daughter! She is BEAUTIFUL and I love YOU!!

I miss you too!! My goodness, Megan and Vanessa will be going off to college before we get together. Better yet, they are going to meet on their own without us one day at the rate we're going!!

Thanks for the info. I never would have thought of starting so soon. I figured she needed teeth firt, but it makes sense! Going tooth brush shopping tomorrow!!
Believe it or not, next week Miss Vanessa is going to be 5 months and we just really started cereal a couple weeks ago. We had started it earlier, but she would then refuse the bottles, so the ped told us to stick to bottles. Now she is drinking a lot of formula, so it is time for cereal again and we started fruits too. She still wants my chinese food though!!

How is my Megan doing?? Nicer weather is coming, so we MUST get together!!

I started to brush DSs gums when he began to eat cereat - so at 5 months. I switched to a toothrush when he got teeth. I was told by my dentist to just use the brush with water and not the toothpaste. My dentist said that DS would swallow the toothpaste and that is not good.

I started wiping my sons gums each night with a wet cloth about 1.5 months ago.

My Ped said when they have teeth...with water is fine, and really only the teeth need to be.

My ped said to start when DD started to get teeth - and to get a finger brush and clean the teeth and gums.

I have been cleaning my DD's gums since the day her first tooth cut out few weeks ago(she is 7 months). My MIL got DD Spiffies baby tooth wipes and she loves it, I also use a little rubber brush that comes with tooth and gum cleaner, that they sell at the pharmacy, I mainly do it at night after I give her the last bottle. I do forget sometimes but do it most nights
