when do you start caring for DC gums?
I know you are supposed to brush/rub their gums but at what age? when they start teething?

Re: when do you start caring for DC gums?
I think its best to start very early so they get used to it in addition to cleaning their mouth. That being said, I have yet to do it and DD is almost 7 mos. She just got her first two teeth (at the same time) and I have the finger toothbrush but haven't used it yet. She is still on so much medication after her surgery that I don't have the heart to shove more things in her mouth. I really need to just do it though. Those teeth look so cute and I wouldn't want them to get gunky.

Re: when do you start caring for DC gums?
My ped told me once my son got his first tooth I should start brushing, so we did (4.5 mos). He's used to it now (13.5 mos) and opens his mouth wide.
ETA: We started with the finger brush and now use a baby tooth brush.

Re: when do you start caring for DC gums?
In the week by week book it said to start massaging their gums early - like 8 weeks or so. Yikes my DDs would have a hissy fit if I tried to do that & their mouths are so small I'm not sure how I'd fit a big washcloth on their gums! So not sure when I'll do that.
I do clean their tongue about once a day to get the formula smell and buildup off of it.

what do you clean their tongues with? DD's tongue is always white & she has stinky formula breathe.

I use a clea, thin wash cloth and wipe Charlie's tongue everytime he gets a bath.

Re: when do you start caring for DC gums?
I have heard of doing this but I honestly can't imagine DD allowing me to put my finger in her mouth with that finger brush on it. She will barely even open for me to check on her teeth. Maybe I'll just start giving her a wet washcloth to chew on.

Noah has 8 teeth and he does not let me anywhere near his mouth with either a wash cloth or a toothbrush! Cheeky Git!
