At my last appt. (2 weeks ago) my Dr. told us to start doing this and I did. We already found our Pediatrician. ETA I am 30 weeks.

Is this really necessary? I will call the few recommendations I have and ask them a variety of questions over the phone. I have very strong recomendations from friends and my own doctor, That I feel comfortable to go to them ater a phone call. JMO..

That's great, I probably wouldn't bother with a consultation if I was in your shoes. I received one recommendation for a doctor that I will probably go to....I just would like to meet with him, I think it will make me feel better if I do in person.

well, it depends upon the dr... some would rather you come in for an apt, while others will talk on the phone...

we have no strong rec's from other people, since no one we know with kids lives close to us.... in your situation, sure, I wouldn't bother with an apt.... in ours, the ped we're interested in (purely based on my online research and his CV) regularly schedules 'meet and greets'.... so we made an appt for one.

Re: When do you start having consultations with pediatricians??

Our primary care doctor gave us a great recommendation for a local pediatric office, so we stopped in to the pediatricians office and they gave us a tour and we were able to ask questions. So our pediatrician was picked out at 23 weeks and we are very happy with our decision.

Re: When do you start having consultations with pediatricians??

I called last week for a pediatrician. I am only 20 wks today but she has been the family doctor since I was a little girl. My nieces.nephews go to her now and she recommended that I call her ASAP to get her for a pediatrician. Her secretary just told me to call after the baby's born and I'm all set. So, I won't be doing a consultation.
