When during the day do you give sippy with milk?

DD is 16.5 months and still on bottles (although she drinks water no problem out of her sippy cups). She is a big milk drinker-- close to 26 ounces a day probably. She much prefers milk over food.

I know a lot of people give the milk in a cup DURING meals, but my issue with doing that with DD is that I truly believe she'd drink the whole thing of milk, be full, and not want food, because she does not really love to eat much.

Right now, she gets bottles of milk when she wakes from her morning nap. Then around 1-2 hours later will have lunch, then the same with her afternoon nap, she'll have dinner about 1-2 hours later. Her appetite is pretty decent with this pattern.

Thoughts?

I give milk during and after meals. In your case, I would probably wait until after the meal, maybe give her water during if needed?

When we switched from bottles to sippys, we started with a couple of the day time bottles. We switched out the bottle, gave her a sippy instead and let her carry it around with her (we never did that with the bottle). Eventually, we cut the last bottle of the night.

My daughters Ped said to only give 16 ozs in a day.

Kaitee(27 months old) gets 8ozs with her breakfast ad 8 ozs after she eats her dinner.


Brooke(13 months old) gets 4 ozs with breakfast., 4 ozs after her nap, 4 oz after her snack (1 hour before dinner) and 4 ozs before bed.

My girls love milk too and would rather drink that but the Ped says she wants them to get the nutrients from their food. Both girls are off bottles.

Andrew has one when he gets up with breakfast and then one between dinner and lunch.

When he gets up and with dinner.

And another cup at some point during the day. He brings his cup to me and says "Mo" when he wants more

One in the morning with breakfast and one after dinner. Sometimes she'll have one between lunch and dinner, after nap.

he wakes up he gets a bottle - very first thing - could be between 5am-6:30am

then he wakes from his nap - around 2ish - gets a sippy of milk

right before bed - 6ish - another sippy of milk

totaling about 24 ounces of milk

ETA: he drinks water with his meals

Milk is at wake up time and follow by breafast 1 hour later, 1 hour before lunch and 1 hour before dinner. I did it this way to remove any association with bed time.

Here is my schedule. I never give milk w/ meal because of the same issue.

Wake-up (usually 7am) 8oz milk
Mid-day (usually 3/4pm) 8oz milk
Bedtime (usally 8:30/9:00pm) 4oz milk

DD is 22 months old and was on the bottle (2x a day) until a month ago. She will drink less milk if you start offering it in a sippy. My DD is milk addict too but we have to keep it to a minimum or she won't eat either.
We started with a sippy for breakfast- about 4 oz. and then a 6 oz bottle right AFTER lunch and one AFTER dinner. Slowly we dropped the after dinner bottle(just a sippy) and then finally the before nap one.

Now we give her a 4oz sippy of milk in the morning, 6oz sippy for lunch and 4oz sippy after dinner. My ped said max out at 16 oz so sometimes if she asks for more, she will get it.
