When is the best time to buy a pool?
DH and I are considering buying a large above ground pool.
Now...I have questions: 1. Where did you buy yours? Would you recommend the place where you bought it?
2. What type of pool did you buy? With or without deck? We are trying to decide. If you have pics, I would sooo appreciate!!
3. When is a good time to buy a pool? Do they run specials now at the end of summer, or in the winter when no one is buying?
4. If we buy in winter...do we have to store the pool and they come assemble in spring? How did that work for you if applicable.
5. Is owning a pool a ton of maintenance? We have no clue.
Thanks so much for all your help.

Now...I have questions: 1. Where did you buy yours? Would you recommend the place where you bought it?
We bought ours at Island Recreational in October of 2004. It was a seasonal leftover. They didn't do the install until about April of 2005. It was a small round w/a half deck (15'). We paid about $1,000 for the pool. Install was extra (about $600) because we needed grading, etc. I have had some bad experiences w/Island Rec but it wasn't too, too bad.
2. What type of pool did you buy? With or without deck? We are trying to decide. If you have pics, I would sooo appreciate!! Half deck.
Half deck w/railing along the entire top. I'll see if I have a pic.
3. When is a good time to buy a pool? Do they run specials now at the end of summer, or in the winter when no one is buying?
After season is the best (anytime after the "closing" season). You can get a great deal on a floor model.
4. If we buy in winter...do we have to store the pool and they come assemble in spring? How did that work for you if applicable.
We stored it in our shed (we have/had a huge shed). It actually took less space than you'd think. They took it down but we had to transport it home. They came in the spring and put it up.
5. Is owning a pool a ton of maintenance? We have no clue. nte It is definitely maintenance. You have to keep up with the chemicals or it will go green. The filter requires maintenance, depending on the type of filter you have (we had a DE filter). There's vacuuming, etc. But totally worth it!!

Re: When is the best time to buy a pool?
We bought our pool this February from Brothers 3 I highly recommend them. We got a last season left over. Had to take delivery of the pool within 2 weeks, stored it in our garage and picked an install date for May 17th. They offer financing interest free for 6 months and you pay the installers seperate rate at the time of installation. Our pool is 18' round and we built a trex deck 10x8 with PVC rails on the one side. The pool has been fairly easy to maintain really just chlorine and skimming it clean. It helped that we removed 2 trees before we got the pool so there really is no debris like leaves. We are going to close it soon so I dont know what that entails yet They offered a complete package with all chemicals for the first season, winter cover, ladder, automatic vaccuum, foot bath, thermometer and everything else you can think of. With the install everything was just under $4700. This pool has a lifetime guarantee also. Brother 3 is great becasue they have their own installation company. We originally were going to buy from Island Rec because their prices were lower but I have heard so many installations horror stories and if you look them up on the Better Business Nureau they have so many complaints. My friends husband owns an inground pool compnay and told us to go to Brothers 3. We are very pleased. Good luck.

I totally agree, this is our first summer with an above ground pool that came with the house, they are a lot of work, and $ Having said that spending a hot day on a floaty chair with a nice drinkie and a good book is lovely. We have found getting the right balance of ph, chlorine etc. in the pool has been a challenge. Also if you need a good installation company let me know, the first one we used completely cocked it up and we ended up having to get a 2nd new liner and pay another company to install it, it was a nightmare. There is a company called Backyard Masters they sell pools and I would think this time of year would be good to buy one. If you want I'll ask the guy who did our 2nd install if he has any advice of where to buy etc.

Re: When is the best time to buy a pool?
Honestly, the biggest maintaince with the pool is vacuuming. I grew up with a pool and my job was to skim in daily, add the chlorine, test the pH, and vacuum weekly. I liked everything except vacuuming. That is...until the shark came. Makes life A LOT easier.
And regarding set up and everything, we did it ourselves and it took up a good afternoon and that was a PITA. If you have a company come and take care of that, I'm sure you'd be a lot happier!
