When our water breaks?
Do we have time to take a shower or do you have to get to the hospital right away..I just get nervous I will not have time to shower.. I mean if contractions are far enough apart we can shower?

Re: When our water breaks?
lol you are cute!
it depends. I was always told to stay home as long as possible when your water breaks/contractions start. and not to go to the hospital until the contractions are 5-10 minutes apart.
My water partially broke with DC#1 and i took a shower and even blow dried my hair before leaving the house. lol
A nice hot shower may do you some good if your water breaks and you start to contract!

Re: When our water breaks?
Our lamaze nurse told us we have up to 2 hours to get to the hospital if my water breaks! She actually suggested taking a shower as long as the contractions weren't too close together!
I don't know if I would wait two hours, but I definitely plan on taking a shower, if I am up to it!

Re: When our water breaks?
It really depends. My sil didn't give birth until 18 hours after her water broke. But alot of women don't even realize they are in labor until their water breaks and by that time that are already 6 cm or more.
The hospital I delivered in has a shower in the delivery room with a little seat, so you can sit if contractions are too painful to stand.

Re: When our water breaks?
My water broke in the middle of the night while I was sleeping, but I had no contractions or cramping.
I called the doctor and they said to head to the hospital. First thing I asked; "can I take a shower first"? He laughed and said "yes". The reason I asked was because I figured who knows when the next time would be that I could shower?
Good thing I did- because I was in labor for 36 hours, needed a c-section, and didn't shower again until four days after that night my water broke!!

Re: When our water breaks?
my prep-teacher told us you have 1.5-2hr to get to the hospital. You can shower, just no baths. They want you at the hospital because the protection barrier is gone and can introduce infection.
