when purchasing a home ... do you?

if the old homeowners put in PVC or pavers or anything else, do you ask for the name and number of the company or warranty information? or even a copy of an order to document what was purchased/installed?

what are some not so obvious things that we should be asking for?

If they are good record-keepers, you may luck out. Also, you can ask if they have any of the instructions/warranty info on all the appliances, too.

Our seller left us all the info and booklets. I also got the name of her sprinkler people, things like that. Can't hurt to ask! Some people aren't good with keeping info like that, but when they are, it's great! Chat Icon

the previous owners of our house left us alot:

-manuals of applicance and dates when they were purchased
- documentation for all the windows with the warranty (that came in very useful)
-manuals for all Air conditioners
-documentation for new roof and siding

they should leave you that kind of stuff, but there is no harm in asking, especially for the fence since the warranty should cover adjustment so the hardware.

if anything, they should be able to tell you who they used so you know where call. Not all warranties are transferable tho!

Our orevious owners left us everything. Manuals, warranties etc. They even had an arc come in for renovations on the house, they were going to add on. They left us those plans too.

Yes, you usually get all of the manuals and appliance info and warranties and all of that at the final walk through before closing, but as pp said, some people are more organized than others.

Some people just don't have all of the stuff (for example, if it's an estate sale and the owner is deceased, the sellers may not have all of that info).
