not yet! well, i shouldn't say that. my first DD slept through the night at 5 weeks. I got so nervous the first time it happened!

My second, she's almost three and still wakes up in the middle of the night, she puts herself back to sleep, but she's still waking up!

DD didn't start sleeping through the night until 9 months. But that was with help from Healthy Sleep habits, Happy Child (I recommend!). According to that book, you shouldn't try to get a baby to sleep through the night until at least 5 months old.

honestly, there is no right or wrong time. Some babies just do it right off the bat, while others take almost a year.

My DD was waking up constantly through the night until she was about 6 months old.

Babies are all different. As far as feeding, most babies don't have a physical need for food after 4 months, though some may still want food for various reasons. And sleeping through the night is defined as 5-6 hours, so if DC goes to sleep at 9, waking up at 2 would technically be sleeping through the night.

DS started sleeping through the night most nights a little before 4 months. The past couple weeks he seems to sleep pretty solidly most nights (once a weeek he seems to wake up).

So unfortunately, not yet.

DS is getting closer....he is 3.5 months, some nights he does really great (6-7 hour stretch), others he is still up every 3 hours

NO not yet IMO.
Sleeping through the night isn't something that POOF my DS did. He slowly started not waking for bottles till he slept right through.

I am sure you will soon see your DC not waking for some bottles soon. Then the time through the night will increase.

Re: When should a baby start sleeping through the nite?

That's very early! But there are no rules when it comes to babies. It's not black and white and your DH needs to understand that or he will drive himself crazy wondering what is wrong with your DC when nothing is wrong in the 1st place. That will apply to most milestones (crawling, sitting, standind up, walking, waving, talking, etc..), when the teeth come out, etc... There are some "standards" but only your ped can make an evaluation from what you tell him/her.

DS did not sleep through the night before he was 6 months. Some babies do it before, some babies do it after.

Re: When should a baby start sleeping through the nite?

At two months, I think I got a 6 hour stretch from DS. It took until about 3 - 3.5 months to give up the 3 am bottle and sleep about 10-12 hours straight.

Re: When should a baby start sleeping through the nite?

DD first slept a good 7 to 8 hours straight when we took her to Florida at about 6 weeks. She was even sleeping in her infant seat!! (the crib they provided was a PNP and she was too small).. I dont know if it was the weather but when we got home she didn't sleep that well for another month or so...

Re: When should a baby start sleeping through the nite?

DS only started sleeping through the night after he turned 1. And we had to do CIO to make it work.

It really is different for every baby, but at 8 weeks, I think it is more common than not.
