DH is applying for a job that listed in the ad what their top pay is. the place responded immediately after he sent his resume asking for his requirements. should he just give the top number?

Re: when they ask 'what are your salary requirements?'

As a recruiter, when we ask what an applicant's salary requirements are, it's to judge whether or not someone is leaving for $$, unhappiness at their current role, etc.

For example, I just received a resume where someone is making $35K, and I asked what their salary requirements were, and they responded $65K - needless to say, I chucked the resume b/c a $30K raise is unrealistic.

I would advise your DH to give something no more than $10-$15K of what he's currently earning. Give a range. Ie: If he's making $10K - putting a range of $15-$25K is best.

I'd give a range. Say the ad has a top salary of $80,000, I'd put $70K - $80K. I can't imagine that too many people would say that they want less money than offered in the adChat Icon

ETA - This assume that the salary range in the ad is realistic. I have seen some ads paying CRAP when they need to come up at least $10K to be considered average for the field of work.
