I always avoid these topics. I do not take part in these kinds of discussions.

Re: When trying to avoid those topics at work...
I put that I am honest. And I am....to a point. I have been at my job for 3 years now and I know basically what will or will not offend people, so if I won't agree or I may offend someone, I don't discuss those topics with them.

Re: When trying to avoid those topics at work...
I don't know anything about politics...so that's easy.
Religion...I respect everyone's choices for religion and how they choose to practice it. To each their own. I don't debate with people about their religion.

I try not to get involved. If it's around the lunch table, i'm usually quiet.

Re: When trying to avoid those topics at work...
I selected ignore, but am honest most times. It depends on the situation. I mainly stay in my office when these discussions start.

Re: When trying to avoid those topics at work...
I chose"ignore" because honestly, I know zilch about politics and probably less about religion.
I'd rather stay quiet than talk about something I don't know much about and come off as wither ignorant or stupid.

I usually excuse myself from the room. I don't even like being around at work for those discussions.

Re: When trying to avoid those topics at work...
my wohle office is catholice/christian and all on the same level piliticially. we do have the random odd-ball that doesnt agree with the consensus, but he usually gets put in his place by others
so the topics at work are never an issue as i am with the majority

Re: When trying to avoid those topics at work...
I put other.
Religion: My secretary isn't Jewish, so sometimes i will explain a holiday to her. But I never would discuss religious philosophy or debate religion with her. Its about faith. There is no way to prove anything, so to debate it would be insensitive and pointless.
Politics: I think we are all pretty liberal democrats in the office. In my old office, I wouldn't discuss anything particularly sensitive and heated- abortion/death penalty/ etc... but other political issues- depending on the audience and the context, I'm honest.
