When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
How did you prepare? Meaning, what steps (besides the obvious ) did you take? What did advice did you receive from your Doctor? What kind of questions did you ask your Doctor?

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
Well we are going to start trying in December but I have done is this so far:
Started taking pre-natal vitamins. Went to the gyno in August and told her a few of my concerns which were thyroid problems (because my father has them). I also thought I had a cyst on my ovary. So she sent me for an ultra sound and blood work (I had the blood work tested for everything they would do if you were PG). So the good news is nothing at all is wrong with me and I can go into this not worrying so much.
I did get the whole speech from my Doctor about how I have to give this one year.
Also she asked me if I would be charting. I told her no because I know exactly when I ovulate (of course after a few months of trying it my way if it doesn’t work I will start to chart)
Good luck.

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
To start of course I had to tell my dr. my history and what medications I was on. He told me the "warnings" and also I would be ok. I am now off the meds and when I told my dr. this the other day he said "Thats great". He also gave me a prescription for pre-natals, asked when my last period was, etc. Told me its great that Im "taking the plunge"..LOL My dr. is great. He doesnt rush you at all. I really cant remember what else I asked. I was concerned biggest of my meds. I wanted to ask the other day about when do you count day 1 as your period...but I forgot Some ladies on here say the 1st spotting day, others say when she's heavy. Ive been counting the heavy day as day 1. I think thats it. Hope I helped at least a little. Baby Dust to you!

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
I started taking pre-natals and I also went to my dr. to make sure everything was ok as far as they cold see.
I also got the whole speech on don't worry if you don't get pregnant right away. It can take up to a year, blah, blah blah.
I considered the 1st day of my period as the heavy day.

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
I went to my OBGYN. She did a pap and some cultures tomake sure I was doing ok. She ran some blood work after about 4-5 months I guess of no luck to make sure that my hormone levels were working properly. She did advise me to lose some weight and to quit smoking...obviously bad things when TTC. She gave me advise on Charting as it helps a LOT. And she said to use OPKS to determine the Ovulation day. She put me on prenatels which made me sick( 3 different kinds) so she had me just take folic acid, Vitamin B and Magnesium every day.

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
after we got married I went off the pill-I had been on it so many years and I was tired of what it was doing to me. I went to the dr for a routine visit, told him I was going off, but we were not TTC yet. He said in the meantime, take a multi vitamin, excercise, eat well, rest well.
I honestly did not see a dr when we decided it was time to start TTC, we had done the family history thing and we had nothing to really worry about (heck-mental illness can't be prevented), so I did not feel a need to be concerned.
We were in GA when we decided, so I didn't find a dr till I actually got PG the first time.
But "to prepare" we talked about at length, went through the various scenarios, went over finances (of which there is NEVER enough), and it was when the first of his friends that had gotten married, had their first child that DH said "wouldn't it be cool if we had one soon so they'd be close in age?"......it was all downhill after that!

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
Because of our age we decided when we got engaged that we would start trying 3 months before the wedding. I saw my ob-gyn Nov 2004 and he did a pap and examined me. I also went off the pill at that time and started charting because I have VERY long cycles... currently on day 72, yes 72... girls who are regular have ovulated approx three times already
I just always knew something wasn't right so in early August I made our "infertility appointment" for mid Sept. I knew this because I was charting and never saw a pattern of ovulation at all. Saved us a lot of time and that's important because we are both over 35. I started taking pre-natals in January.
Long story short, my doctor wasn't agressive enough for me so I by-passed him (I don't need a referral) and got an appointment for an RE for this week.
I cut WAY down on caffeine and alcohol but many have told me caffeine is more harmful to ovulation than alcohol. I already eat pretty well.

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
I began taking prenatals, went for a regular check-up and told my doc we were trying. I also started charting, it really helps you learn how your body works.
Of course we also discussed finances, the future, work, etc. Good luck!

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
I went for my checkup, started taking pre-natal vitamins, and now we are paying off bills and fixing up the house. I go back to the ob/gyn on 10/21 and we'll go from there.

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
FYI folic acid helps to prevent birth defect like spina bifida (nueral tube defects) and can help when taken before conception which is why they tell you to take this

Re: When you and your DH decided it was time to TTC
Noreen, we should all be so lucky!!!
I just saw my Dr. last week, only b/c I had been spotting for a week (never did that before)
I asked about TTC and caffiene, and she said a cup of coffee a day shouldn't hurt at all. Although, I'm really going to stop drinking it all together soon, just b/c.
