I was progressing very fast, so my DR. broke my water, while ordering the epi(I was 8cm). It took about 3 minutes for the an. to come.

really? that is great. I have been hearing horror stories. I want to go natural, but people are telling me to ask for one asap, since it took them 2 hours to get theres.

they wanted to get a bag of saline in me before they'd give me the epi.
According to Al, it was about 45 minutes (time was totally distorted for me, so I can't judge)

I was told at 7 am by my beeoych OB that I could get the epi... They arrived like 15 min later. I was never so happy to see another man besides my DH in all my LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I arrived at the hospital I was already 5-6 cm so the nurse asked if I wanted the epi., I said yes. They brought me into the room and hooked me up to an IV and they had to give me a full bag of fluids before giving me the epi. The nurse squeezing the saline bag tring to make it go quicker while the an. was asking me questions by the time he was done the nurse was done. So I didn't have to really wait becuase everything they did before hand was hospital procedure .

Within about five minutes after I asked for it. I was warned, however, that if the maternity ward is busy at the time you are in labor, and everyone wants an epi at the same time, it could take a while for them to get to you.

Same here. They told me I had to wait for one IV bag to go in me. It felt like forever, and I was already 7 cm. when I got to the hospital. Thankfully I got it!

My dr. ordered te epi, broke my water, and the anesthesiologist (sp?) was there right as she was done. I'd say it was about 15 minutes...

My advice is to basically tell each doc in your practice that you want an epi and tell them again when you get to the hospital. This way they'll speed along any bloodwork and you most likely won't have to wait long.
Also, if you're worried about it taking long don't wait until you're dying of pain. When it starts to get uncomfortable ask b/c the contractions can go from bearable to unbearable in minutes (hope I'm not scaring you LOL).
With my daughter I never got it (not by choice) but with my son I got it and I actually heard my doc chasing down everyone in the hall to make sure I got it when I asked. I only waited tops 10 minutes.

With my first, I remember (and dh reminds me  ) that I was screaming "Get the EFFING anestesiologist !!!!!!!!!!! Where the EFF is the anestesiologist ????????" so although I was on too many drugs to know how long it took, I guess it was too long for me 
(and I adored her, thankfully she didnt hear me biotching  )

With my 1st I think it was about an hour.
With my 2nd, the azzhole Dr. made the 1st attempt w/in 1/2 hour of requesting it and after he missed FOUR times, I finally got a Dr. who got it on the 1st try. So, it took almost 3 hours.

It wasn't long at all - he was sleeping at the hospital - just in case I needed it.
I will ask my DH, if he knows exactly how long - I was a little out of it, so I am not sure of the exact time.

I initially didn't want it so they kept asking me and I said "no".
When I finally asked for it I had to wait for 1 1/2 bags of IV to be in me and then they came right away.
I only had the epidural in for about an hour before I started pushing and delivered my son though.

About 15 minutes...they gave me a heads up, they said the Dr would have busy morning with multiple c-sections to cover, so it was now or never....I chose ASAP

I think about 10 minutes-I was already hydrated and had an IV from being induced so as soon as I asked (begged) they checked me , I was 5 cm and they paged anasthesia and they came in like 10 min.
