Re: when you call out sick, are you specific about your illness?
I don't have to go into detail, but I do because we're like family at my job and I know people worry about each other when one of us is sick.

Re: when you call out sick, are you specific about your illness?
I am not specific.
I have two people who work under me. One is not specific, which I prefer. The other gives me details about his ailments, when he is seeing the dr, etc. It is TMI (especially when he had a stomach virus), and he is sick all the time!

I used to go way overboard giving all the little details of said illness, now I just call and say Im sick or todays not going to work out See you tomorrow.

Nope, "I'm not coming in today" or "I'm out sick today" is all I say.

Re: when you call out sick, are you specific about your illness?
I call in to a registry.
Just call in sick. Never give a reason. My job does not require a doc. not until the 4 sick day in a row.
Why would I volunteer more personal info than I have to?... it could be the one thing semi-manufactured and used against me (or anyone else) and be so hard to prove if they did use it against me.

I just tell them I'm sick. By law they can't ask you what your illness was.

I'm usually only out for stomach virus, so I just say I have a bug and hopefully its only 24 hour one.

I work in daycare. I give details (if asked). Depending on why I'm out, boss may want parents to have a heads up.

Re: when you call out sick, are you specific about your illness?
My situation is a little different. I work in a preschool, so when we call out sick, we have to explain why, so they know what sort of illnesses are going around and may have infected some kids. So I always let them know the deal. No graphic detail, just stomach virus, pink eye, strep thoat, etc.

seems my situation is different than most on here. I usually do give details as I am very close to both my boss and my team, who in turn give out details of their own. plus I just continue working from home as if its a regular day, and its considered regular work day for me, not a sick day (actually this year was the very first time I took a real sick day for a surgery, I wasnt even aware we had them until then LOL). maybe taking a break here and there if my fever is going up, even then I am right next to my computer and my phone in hand so I am always responsive to emails within minutes. I do call out sick a lot as I do not believe in going to work and infecting everyone around me. some ppl do and its one of my biggest pet peeves. better believe it that I immediately catch whatever they have.

Re: when you call out sick, are you specific about your illness?
Only if it means I'll be out a while. For example, if I had the flu I'd say I have the flu so that they can expect I'll be out a week.
But otherwise no. I just say I'm sick/not feeling well and leave it at that.
