When you decorate a cake or cookies with sprinkles, when do you put them on?
a few minutes before it's done in the oven, when it's still hot but out of the oven or when the cake/cookies have cooled?

it's not frosting, it's candy decorations, but yes, I guess that can melt too .

I would think if you wait til they cool the sprinkles/decorations would not stick to the cookie.
If they are bigger sprinkles or decorations I would put them on as soon as the cookies come out of the oven when they are really really hot so the decorations stick. For the colored sugar type of sprinkles I would put them on before even putting cookies in the oven.

Im sorry, i read your post wrong...i thought you were frosting the cake/cookies.
I usually decorate the cookies before baking them.

For cookies, either before baking, or immediately after.
With cakes, after it's cooled and frosted.
