When you delivered your 2nd, 3rd, etc DC what did you do with your 1st DC

I ask because during the day our DS will be at the hospital with us and my parents until my parents take him home with them. I just wonder if he will so bored and grumpy but, I plan on having toys and books there so he can play and read. Anyone ever do this with their DC and how did it work out?

He was with a grandparent or at school. I was adamant about trying to keep his schedule as much as possible. It was a v-birth so only 2 days.

He came for the family visiting hours & that's it. It's not that I didn't want him there but he was more interested in playing with the sink pedals & going through things than seeing me or the baby.

He was at home with my Mom. I would never have him at the hospital. It would be wayyyy to boring for him. He came up the next day (I had a c-section) and only stayed a little while. ITA with Barb. I wanted his routine to remain as much the same as it could. He was upset I couldn't hold him and wanted me to come home so I think seeing me made it worse.

I had no plans to have DD at the hospital but I also had natural childbirth and that would scare the crap out of her.
Our friend came and stayed with her when we went to the hospital, took her to school and the timing worked that DH was able to pick her up from school the day that DS was born.

The hospital is right down the block so she will be with Grandma and Grandpa during labor and then with Daddy the rest of the time. Daddy can then just come and go when she hangs out with her Aunt, cousin, Grandma, whoever.

My water broke in the middle of the night so my parents came over my house to watch her and took her back to their house in the AM and then came with her to the hospital when I gave birth that morning and stayed for a bit, then took her to their house. There is NO way she would have stayed in the room at 20 months. Every time they brought her to visit both days she wouldn't even stay in the room for long - too busy running up and down the halls!

I had a scheduled C-Section the second time. We dropped Robbie off at my mom's at 5:30am and headed off to the hospital to have his brother. Robbie was only 2 at the time and prone to touching things, getting antsy and wanting a lot of attention. I wanted a really relaxed experience so there was no way he was coming to the hospital with me.

He came up that afternoon and spent a good hour with us. He was very anxious about the IV and me being in a hospital bed -- but his curiousity over the new baby kind of helped alleviate it.

I am having a scheduled c-section again. My parents will come here that morning or we will drop him off the night before. Then he will come up with my parents during my surgery hang out for a few and then go back with them.

My Mom will be keeping him for that entire week but will be bringing him up every time she comes to the hospital.

He is a HUGE part of our family and can't even imagine not having him up there with us and seeing his baby sisterChat Icon

I had a scheduled c-section with DD. DS stayed with my SIL at our house when we left at 6 am, while our parents waited at the hospital. Later that day, my mom and dad picked him up and he stayed with them until I came home 4 days later. My mom did bring him up to the hospital so see me the next day.

He was with my MIL and FIL. They didn't come to the hosptial until after #2 was born. No one could hold DS#2 anyway because he had a rough birth and had to get evaluated. DS#1 did get to see me for a few minutes though the day of, I really didn't get to see him until day two. We didn't feel that we needed everyone, especially my two year old, at the hospital. I was happy that he was somewhere else (personally).

DD was with family either my DH's aunt or my mom, I would NEVER have her at the hospital all day or even for more than an hour. it is very boring for them and you need your rest, the newborn will be with you and if you have a neighbor the rooms usually dont accomdate so much space or privacy, at least my experience with winthrop.
try you best to have him with family and limited time at the hospital.

I wqas lucky enough to have my siblings around who all helped out. They took him on special big brother outings and made a big deal over my ds. HE slept one night at my brothers house and then the next at home with his daddy. I think it was actually easier for him to be out of the house than home with daddy and no mommy. HE visited me in the evening and mornings. I considered myself and him lucky to have so much to do. I think the hospital might work out ok but honestly, I would suggest atleast letting him go out with daddy for a little while in the middle of the day to do something special. That's just me though. I think too much fuss over the baby and not enough fuss over the older one might be a problem.

The PLAN was for my father and FIL to come to the house to watch DS1 when I went to the hospital. My mom and MIL were to be at the hospital and call the dads to the hospital once I had the baby.
I ended up going 6 weeks early so all plans went out the window. My sister ended up coming to the hospital to watch DS1 when I went in and he went to my parents for the week.

I was staying with my parents when I went into labor so my mom called into work and she stayed with DS. I left for the hospital at 7am and had DD at 12:22pm so my mom and dad brought DS that night and then he went to my SIL's for 2 days. The day I was being discharged DH went to go pick up DS and then come get DD and me.
I definitely wouldn't have had him their all day. He wasn't to thrilled while I was holding DD so it was actually very difficult for me emotionally. My kids are 14.5 months apart.

Re: When you delivered your 2nd, 3rd, etc DC what did you do with your 1st DC

I had a scheduled C with my 2nd, so my IL's came over early that morning to watch Julia, and then came up to the hospital with her once I had the baby, then left and came up once visiting hours started. DH would pick Julia up at IL's house at night, then drop her off to there house in the AM again. I only had Julia come up for the grandparent visiting hours (1-3), there was NO way I could keep her there all day with me, she would be SO bored and get into everything!!

Re: When you delivered your 2nd, 3rd, etc DC what did you do with your 1st DC

I had scheduled section for my 2nd, but if i went into labor earlier, DD was going to my bro's and my IL's would pick her up and stay with her while i was in the hospital.

I am a state away from my parents and IL's. My DD was 14 months old when DD was born and we didn't want her at the hospital for a couple reasons-she's very attached to me and we didn't want her to cry when she had to leave and be sad at home, and honestly, we wanted to bond with baby #2 while #1 was at home those first few days. I missed her like crazy, but i wouldn't have done it any differently now.

DS stayed with my mom for the two days I was there. She would bring him to visit me for about 2 hours a day. I was afraid he wouldn't understand and be upset but he was totally fine!
