Most of the time its plated unless its really messy or its cooked in a big heavy pot.
I usually make our plates and then call in DH from playing video games when its ready.

For dinner, since it is just DH and I, we eat at the kitchen table everyday. Some things I will plate, rather then putting them on a serving dish.

Family style, that is how my family always did it. We will do plated on special occasions or meals.

For dinner every night, I put everything out on the table. I certainly don't feel like getting up to get something each time its needed. I guess that's family style?
