did he/she have nights and days confused? It seems Hannah loves to sleep all day and then is up screaming all night. Is this normal? How do I get her to stay awake during the day and sleep at night?

Hey Jodi Chat Icon
same exact situation. I read in an article today that they do this because when they were in for 9 months during the day we were moving around which lulled them to sleep at nite we rested which woke them up. not exactly sure if this is right or not but heck...its research! Gillians doing the same so dont worry. See ya at 2am on LIF...LOL

at night try to keep the lights off or low and keep talking and other stimulation to a minimum. During the day talk and play with her when she's awake. I also always tried to make sure that DS didn't sleep for too long of a stretch during the day. I didn't want to wake a sleeping baby, but I'd rather have him get his long stretches of sleep at night! Don't worry it's totally normal and she'll figure it out.

Lily definitely has her days & nights confused, although last night she slept from 12:30-5. I was soooo happy. I hope this is a sign of things to come. The days we give her a bath seem to help. That tires her out.

Yes this is very normal - took about 2 or 3 weeks for them to really get the whole day night thing...actually they still sleep sometimes during the day (like they are right now!)

I still find it hard to "keep them up" during the day - everyone says to do this, but honestly its almost impossible. They become comatose after a feeding. The best thing to do is to have the baby in your arms and move her around a lot, its a lot of work but you'll be happy when you get to sleep at night! Good luck! Chat Icon

Re: When you first brought baby home

It is soo perfectly normal.. utterly frustrating, yes , but normal!
I will say that Nikolas adjusted pretty quickly though, by one month he was pretty much sleeping at night well. He's a horrible napper and he is somewhat colicy, so I hardly get any down time during the day (except today, he's been a sleepyhead Chat Icon) but at night, he gives me longer stretches ..

It's the last thing you want to hear now when you are exhausted and tired but it DOES get better .. ! Chat Icon

Re: When you first brought baby home

how you change this is to only allow her to sleep no longer than 2 hours at a time during the day. it will get you on a normal schedule in a couple days.
