Re: When you go TOT...

I used to but people abused it
Would take the whole bowl and there would be nothing left at all.
So now I don't anymore

Re: When you go TOT...

I did last year & will do it again this year. We just get local kids around here since houses are widespread.

Re: When you go TOT...

We get so few TOT'ers I'm tempted not to even bother with candy tonight while we are out. We leave it outside but have never had an issue. If we're home we hand it out.

No because you have the kids that dump the entire bowl into their bag.

I know- it stinks that they ruin it for everyone.
I so want to do it- to get rid of candy while we are out TOTing ourselves- but I just can't anymore

This was the first year we put a bowl out. I'm glad I did because enough kids came and took some candy. If we hadn't we would still have it in the house.

No need to. I ran out of 300 pieces in 1.5 hours! We live in a garden co-op that has swarms of TOTs

When you go TOT...

I do. And I don't even care anymore if kids take it all. The last thing I want is a ton of candy left.

When you go TOT...

I left a bowl out tonight while we tot... not even an hour later and it was emptied... and what's sad is that they even took all the teal pumpkin items. Completely empty.... I argued with my husband on not leaving it out because of this very reason.... never again! My kid had to start sorting through and giving out her own candy bc she wanted to hand out treats so badly! Very upsetting that a few ruin it for all...

Yes, I've left a bowl out 3 years in a row so far and haven't had any issues. I don't care if some kids take it all. That's why I buy the candy for them.

No one came before we left, so we left it out. I put out about half the candy in case it got taken by 1 kid (still a lot because I overbought). Still plenty left. It's outside now for any latecomers so I don't have to go to the door.

ETA: the bowl was emptied in the last hour. Probably by 1 or a few older kids. But at least it lasted past when any younger kids would be out.

Yes, I've left a bowl out every year for the last seven years. Sometimes its empty when I get home, and that's okay. I use a plastic bowl from the dollar store and no one has ever stolen it. Even if they did, it's a dollar store bowl, so I don't care. We've encountered a lot of candy bowls while TOT, and all but one still had candy when we got to it.

I do, and we end up getting like 5 people, if that. I have a camera outside, so if a punk took all the candy, my bowl, or the witch holding it, I would have no problem showing that video on our community page so their proud parents could see Chat Icon

Yes but I learned several years ago not to put out any bowl that I want to see again. I had my good stainless steel mixing bowl stolen a while back. I never would have thought someone would do something like that. Dump the contents, sure, but not take the actual bowl.

Yes, we did this year and last when we took our daughter around the neighborhood. I've not had any problems and both years we're returned to candy left in the bowl. I bought one of those plastic/acrylic bowls from the Dollar Tree so that in case its stolen or damaged, I don't care.

I don't buy 5 lbs of candy for one kid to take it all. I buy it for the whole neighborhood to take a few pieces each

I have but I don't anymore. Last year I watched a group of kids dump the entire bowl in their bags. I have a cheap bowl but I am not leaving $20 worth of candy for one kid to take.

Same here.

I don't care if the kids take a handful, but we caught kids dumping it into their bags and called them on it. The kids were shouting "Take more! Take more!" while the parents stood there and watched. Chat Icon When we confronted them, the parents couldn't understand why we were bothered by it. (This has happened in the past, so we monitor our cameras from our phone. We just happened to be 200 feet from our home when it happened today.)

This year, we actually had people pull up in vehicles and run out to swipe the candy from the porches! My daughter watched them do it to our neighbor's home and was able to tell them because that was where she was headed next. The dad jumped in his car and found them (boneheads were driving a pretty distinct vehicle and didn't leave the neighborhood Chat Icon ) and confronted them. Their response: "What's the big deal?!" He was furious! It was only 4pm and the little ones were just coming around. THEN he caught 2 more groups of kids (high school) trying to swipe his candy.

I know people will say kids will be kids, but even as a kid, that stuff didn't sit well with me. And our kids know how that sets us off. I've already warned them they better never pull a stunt like that or they'll be in a lot pain. Chat Icon

When you go TOT...

We were out for 5.5 hours tonight because we went ToTing by my moms house. I left a bag of candy by my door with a note and when we got home, it was still full.

Re: When you go TOT...

Yep. I leave a sign that says take a few pieces, and leave some for the rest. No one has ever abused it.
