when you have a second child...
what happens with daycare or in home care? Ive talked to a few people and they said it doubles...who could afford 500 a week without it eating up your salary. Its just nuts! At that point it sounds like you should quit your job and stay home.

Re: when you have a second child...
I think about this allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the time. While we hate JT's schedule at work, we love the fact that we will never have to pay for daycare. We'd have to wait 5 years to have another baby if that were the case. I'd like to have another baby as soon as we buy a house so JT can get back to a normal schedule again within the next few years.

Re: when you have a second child...
You get a 10% discount off of the second child. Then you continually push the day care to move your kid up to the next class because as they move, the cost goes down.
Many people sit down & decide whether it would pay to work or be a SAHM or opt for an in-home daycare.

We couldn't afford daycare for 2 so I quit my job and became a SAHM

Yes but they don't double it. Not even close. So it's usually the more affordable alternative.

that's so funny that you say this b/c this is what my SIL is doing. They waited 5 years to have their second. My nephew will be 5 in Sept. and the new baby is coming in May. But unfortunately I'm not sure how much that helped even b/c she still has to pay for after school care for my nephew anyway. UGH!

when I used to nanny/babysit It would be $6 for the first then either $8 or $9 for both kids so it isnt that big of a diffence for 2

I was surprised to see how much the before/after school options were. Word of advice: If you don't have a house, one thing to check into is if the school district has full-day kindergarten. Ours doesn't.

DH and I are currently doing this. As much as I don't think I want to stay at home I may. We don't have family that can reliably watch our kids and we lost out on a lot of money from Roman being out sick from daycare, now imagine that was two kids plus the money not being made by being home and not in the office (for DH). I love my job but basically DH is the bread winner I just have the health benefits which in checking out still would make sense for me not to work and have DH pay for.
We would have to pay around 2400.00 a month for the both of them, more than our mortgage
