When you have an IBS attack..
how long does it last for you - hours, days, weeks?
I was diagnosed with it about 2 years ago - and I haven't had too many flare-ups since. This week my stomach is awful (burning, bloated, nauseaus, etc). I'm guilty because even though my stomach feels awful, I'm still hungry and haven't been eating what I probably should be. Also, what kinds of foods do you eat when you have a flare-up?

Re: When you have an IBS attack..
my ibs-d varies soooo much. i can be fine fora month and then sick for a day. or be fine for a week and have issues for a week. i cant really find any ryhme or reason either when it comes to what i eat or dont eat triggering it. so .... when it happens all i can say is i TRY to stay away from heavy oils and lots of dairy. but ia m not a saint cause anything to get me to eat cause i am so um cleaned out that i am starving but nothing sounds good. so i eat whatever i can that doesnt make me go. sorry if this is too graphic. eeks.!! hope you feel better!!

Re: When you have an IBS attack..
for me, I have Crohns. Lettuce and anything with a ton of fiber kills me. Two foods I really don't eat are lettuce and green peppers. Yikes! Very bad.
I eat basic foods. I stay away from processed stuff and sugar. Those are the things that really irritate my gut. So in a flare I will stick to breads, soup, turkey, cereal and lots of fluids. After a few days I feel better. I also have medicine I could take.
Stay away from alcohol too.
There are anti-spasmodics that you can take to help feel better too.
Sorry you aren't feeling well.

Re: When you have an IBS attack..
Not to be gross, but I don't really get the runs or anything. I just feel more like I am all inflammed inside, and I get that gnawing feeling in my stomach, bad bloating, agada, indigestion. I have been really bad lately - I switched back to reg coffee and I have been eating a lot of sugar/carbs.
I actually feel a little better today. I got AF so I think that was part of it. I actually just read an article that said AF can bring on IBS symptoms - something to do with the liver and hormones, etc. Damn them hormones.

Re: When you have an IBS attack..
i haven't had a span where it was good. The only 'good times' i have may be a DAY...i could eat identical foods for 2 days and one day will be great, and i'll only go 3 times and the next day will be horrid and i'll go 12 times. Unfortunately, i'm not stretching the truth....when it's bad, it's HORRID..
I've had it for 12 years now and it doesn't get any easier.

Re: When you have an IBS attack..
My DH has IBS and I sympathize with all of you...usually his "flare ups" last a few days to maybe a week or two...we have figured out which foods trigger the symptoms, but he still eats them...He has a lot of good days, but as soon as you add stress into the mix, his IBS is extremely active.
