Re: When you have an interview during the work day
My old job I told them I had an appointments with an attorneys (I was interviewing at law firms)
Now, when I go out to interviews, I just say I have an appointment.

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
I have used "doctor's appointment" for morning interviews, but I have also taken the whole day off because I was "sick"! I used the "sick" excuse for an afternoon interview because I was paranoid that I was gonig to get held up at work!

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
I had no trouble interviewing for this job because I had Mondays off at my old place so I was able to do it all on my time, but before that I don't think I ever got that specific with my excuse. I would just say I have a personal appointment and that was that. I've never had any trouble telling people at work to mind their own business!
For the most part I always try to schedule interviews before or after regular hours just to spare myself the headaches.

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
Interviews usually take about one-two hours, so I would say that I have a doctor's appointment - if it was during lunch/the day.
Otherwise, I would schedule appointments as early/late in the day as possible so that I would either come in late (family emergency) or leave earlier (death in the family.) Terrible, I know - but honestly, they get a little suspicious when you have all these doctors' appointments if you're actively interviewing.

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
i would take a personal day or call in sick
at my previous job, one of the managers was going to doctor appts every week for several weeks. we were sooo convinced that she was going to announce her resignation any day. then a few weeks later she announced her pregnancy!

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
I usually use some type of "appointment". I've always tried to schedule before work interviews, if I can't get lunch interviews. It's much easier when you work in the city to get away with interviews during work hours.

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
When interviewing for my current job, I used 'em all.
1) Flat tire & had to wait for hubbie to come fix it b/c I don't know how 2) Doctor Appointment 3) Called in sick (this was bad - I actually lied and said I was diagnosed w/ Vertigo then did research on the disease to sound authentic.) 4) Lunch time interviews I wouldn't tell anyone - I would just go... if I ran late I would say the restaurant I went to was extremely crowded and our waitress was terrible and messed up my order.
I HATE lying and sneaking around, so by the end, I would up quitting my job so I could go on multiple second round interviews...
The whole process was such a PITA. I know one company brought me back THREE times and decided not to hire me in the end. For my current job I had four interviews.

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
doctors, or if it was close I would go before or after work
it's hard- the lying makes it harder
but you have to do what you have to do!

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
I have a few options I use:
- doctor's appointment - call in sick, usually a migraine (hard to argue with and you don't have to look sick) - family obligation that cannot be changed

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
Dentist. I've found that you can ALWAYS blame the dentist by saying "I don't know...he worked on me, but I'm still in pain"...
The only time I ever called out sick was for my 2nd interview with my new job. But, I knew I was close to getting it!

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
I either take a personal day, or schedule the interview for first thing in the morning or as alte as possible, and then just go in a little late to work or leave a lttle early.

Re: When you have an interview during the work day
I either try to go super early (730am) if they are open to that...or during lunch...or right after work.
If I HAVE to, I will call in sick or late. I hate doing that. I have gotten the hang of changing in the car, dunkin donuts etc..it's sad and I am so tired of doing it...sigh......
