where can I find info on water level tables on south shore?
anyone know where I can find information on the water tables on the south shore of Nassau cty? Is it the Town I would call? The county?
I'd love to look at a map and see where the land had been previously filled in before building homes, etc.

what exactly do you want to know about the water table? You can go to historicaerials.com, plug in your address and see what things used to look like.

Not sure if it's even available. When I had work done on my house, I needed a soil specialist to come in and do a soil analysis to determine the water table level. If they had a map already, they wouldn't need to do that. I would think that every yard could be different slightly, depending on the soil composition.
The only way that I know of to really know is to dig or bore down, and I doubt any town has records of any of that. It also changes over time, so you would need to redrill every few years.
I agree, though. That would be really nice to have!

If it is depth to water elevation I can help you - I have a map that says how far below ground surface groundwater is in a particular area - you just have to subtract that number from how high you are above sea level (with a topo map).

Depth to groundwater? We do a lot of phase 1 reporting at work and I always use a search firm to get the historical information on a property we are doing. Not sure if you could find that o ut on your own though...

yes, I wanted to find out how deep the water is if you were to dig down - because we're house hunting very close to the water and I am trying to avoid potential flood issues - I'm surprised so many houses on/near the water have basements!

If you looking for flood level maps, go to FEMA.gov
If you are looking for fresh water aquifers go to your local Water Company.

By us the flood zones were just changed. I know you can get that from the town.
