Where did you find your babysitter?

DH and I don't go out much alone. My in-laws have my 3 kids after school/camp during the week (and school days off), so we would never ask them to babysit. My SIL will babysit for us (which we do take her up on but have to plan it super far in advance).

I was thinking it would be nice to have a babysitter for a date night here and there. It's not my twins that are the issue, it's my youngest (he's 4). He has autism. He is semi potty trained. I say semi because he will use the potty when he wants to but won't tell us (and lately has been having frequent accidents). He has tantrums too (sometimes we can figure out why, often we are just ruling things out until it eventually passes).

I would be nervous to find a sitter for him on care.com (although I have heard other special needs moms do). I have a cousin that would babysit but she lives far (over an hour each way) so I hate to have her drive all the way to me and back home. Plus she would never let us pay her. I would just feel way too guilty and would want to rush back home (but could use her in an emergency). So tough! Just wondering what others do?

Maybe post an ad at your son's school? Sometimes aides or other staff members are interested in babysitting jobs outside of school to make extra $. Or they may know someone.

It's funny you mentioned this. I was just thinking this. Do you think they would be allowed? It wouldn't be a conflict of interest, right? I was thinking of mentioning it to his teacher (not for her, but to get her take on it and see if she thought any of the paras in his room might be interested)? Part of me says maybe I should wait until he ages out. He's in CPSE so he only has this year at his school. Next sept he will leave to go to kindergarten.

You should check, I know my son's school does not have a problem with it and they have a board in the cafeteria area where you can post jobs. I was almost going to do this as I was having an issue with getting my DS on the bus in the morning

I found our on facebook in the local mom's group. She has been a blessing for our family and I wish I found her years ago.

Oh wow. Wish his school had a posting board like that. Would make it so much easier.

I teach in a public elementary school and I know that some of the aides in the self-contained classrooms babysit the kids outside of school. Can't hurt to ask.

Where did you find your babysitter?

We have asked the aides in the classroom. Most babysit or know someone trained that would do it.
