Where to get tested?
Looks like my husband has a bad cold, but I want him tested for COVID 19. Any idea where to do that?

Re: Where to get tested?
Jones Beach drive thru testing is set up by the Theodore Roosevelt preserve. By appt only. 888-364-3065, no Rx required

Re: Where to get tested?
From my understanding, testing is still limited. He would call his primary care doctor and explain why he wants to be tested. They will ask questions to see if he qualifies for testing (like if he came in contact with someone that has it, or if he's traveled recently). If he qualifies, then they will send him to one of the testing sites.

Oh that's much better. A relative wanted to be tested just the other day and they told her no because she didn't qualify. I didn't realize this opened with no RX needed.

Yea. Not dr referral needed but they are asking to check with your dr first to be sure you’re not wasting your time or a test. They wills. Ask the same questions your dr asked using that appt number and based on that, you’ll get the appt or not.

He has a nasty, nasty dry cough but no fever. He does not know anyone who has contracted the disease and they said he is not qualified to be tested.

I think the fever is the big thing with this. So no fever, probably not that

You need to have a fever AND respiratory symptoms.
My DH is also sick. He has the fever but no respiratory symptoms. Wouldn't test him for COVID or flu, which infuriated me. I told him to give it another day or 2 and if he isn't feeling better I'll start calling in favors.

Re: Where to get tested?
Yes. Need fever and cough to be considered
Don’t forget allergies are insane right now due to such a mild winter. I’ve been using Flonase every morning along with a 12 hr Claritin followed by a Zyrtec before bed. And my post nasal drip is gagging me. When go outside for a small walk (it helps DHs recovery) when I get back, my throat hurts for a few hours. I drink tea and use a lozenge.
Allergies are insane. Colds, strep and flu is still going around too.
They don’t a test for every single person. So they are trying their best to test only those who have the necessary symptoms not to waste tests. Just stay home if you are sick. If you can’t breathe, then seek medical attention. At this point knowing whether you have it or not shouldn’t matter that much because the treatment is the same. Stay home, stay hydrated and treat symptoms

Yeah my allergies are awful. I find a cool mist humidifier helps too!
